Mom-Drobe Inspiration: Long, Linen Pants (For Hiding Veins and Stretch Marks While Staying Cool)

Now you know I love my shorts.  Especially my denim cut-offs (and here's how I styled them last summer).  However, I realize that not all of you are shorts devotees.  And from time-to-time we receive comments or emails asking for warm-weather options that cover up post-baby stretch marks or varicose veins.  Maxi skirts are one good option, but another?  Super comfy linen pants.

Linen pants often feel like sweatpants (and get softer after each washing – use the delicate cycle, lay flat to dry), but unlike sweatpants they have great drape and are very breathable.

And drape is good for your bum. (I'll just leave the "breathable" comment alone…)

Even better, I found a couple great pics from Shopbop and Calypso to use as inspiration…

I'm loving this look from Shopbop.  The model is wearing Juicy Couture linen pants and a Vince sweater (now sold out).

I love the cropped, boxy sweater layered over the soft linen pant – so comfy chic.  Perfect for a cooler summer night, strolling the beach.

Ok – using this pic as inspiration, we can re-create this look (linen pant + cropped top) a couple of different ways.  Cropped oversized sweaters work (short or long sleeve), as do cropped swingy tanks for hot weather.  Just layer your cropped tops over another tank.  Please.

Here's what I came up with:

So I'm loving Calypso's printed linen pants, but you can recreate the feel of this outfit with a basic linen pant.  Just add a printed scarf for cooler nights.

I'm also loving the cross-body fringe bag, but it's too small for the usual necessities.  But good for those days when your guy is carrying his man-bag fully-loaded. (That sounds dirty.  "Hey Baby….is that man-bag fully-loaded?  Yeah.  Thought so.")

Anywho, here's what I came up with:

Wow.  I almost typed, "Likey likey?"  What IS that?  It's not even babytalk, it's….just….annoying.  It's clearly time to go.  So anyway….likey likey? AHEM.  Thoughts, ladies?

xo,

S

I love the feel of linen, but I always end up a wrinkled mess… after only 15 minutes of wearing. Is there some trick to wearing linen? Any help is appreciated!

I am lmao at your man bag comment. Lol. I’m sitting here nursing and rocking and reading on my iPhone and my baby is looking at me funny because I’m shaking as I try to laugh quietly.
Anywho… Love the linen pants and have been wondering about them so thanks for the ideas!

OMG – I echo Liza – I lmao at the man bag comment – have you thought about writing a book? Doing stand up? Hysterical!
I also echo Erin – I end up a wrinkled mess – and I find that the loose linen pants don’t provide enough structure for my bum and it looks sort of like a jiggly jello mess ;)
That being said – love the looks! Might have to try them out…

I bought some linen pants and they turned out to be totally see through. But they work wonderfully as a bathing suit cover-up.

I love your posts like this, with ideas to put items together. I am hoping you might do a post on uping the style of the basic summer short and tee/tank look. With 100 plus degree weather I feel like I wear the same thing day in and day out. Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

You guys are too kind. :)
In regards to the wrinkled look…it’s pretty much unavoidable. It’s part of linen’s laid-back charm. I’ve found that spending a bit more $$ can often net you a higher quality pant – one that drapes well even when wrinkled and isn’t so sheer.
Denise – GREAT idea! Will get workin’.

I read this post about a week ago, and that afternoon headed over to the outlet mall for a little sale shopping. I found *slightly* more structured linen pants at Banana, and the entire store was 50% off, so the pants were $30. I say slightly more structured because they have an actual waist band with a button and zipper, but there’s still the linen draw string/belt thing, and they’re a touch saggy off of the butt, but in a good way. They came in white (though you could see the pockets, a good white pant without visible pockets is so hard to find), a light camo-green color and navy. I went with navy and have worn them about 5x since that day! They look great with almost everything and have been cool but still covered me on days that I had too many klutzy bruises on my legs. I don’t think I would have bought them if you hadn’t posted this, so thank you!
