I love my skinnies, mamas, but I’ve got to say I’m pretty thrilled flares are back. I believe I was a disco diva in a previous life because I’m always happy to go back to the long & lean silhouette of fit & flare denim, blousy peasant tops and platforms. Always. Which is why I was thrilled to see Kristen’s 70’s-inspired Mom Street Style submission combined with her fresh take on mixing brights. Kristen sported essentially the same outfit for us in two adorable versions. Both have great pops of color, proving brights make great basics and can easily make the look. Love.
My name is Kristen. I'm 37 and a new mom. Clara is 17 months old. We are living in Germany where my husband is stationed. I love discount shopping; I think I'd be looking for deals even if we won the Powerball. I also love vintage finds. I'm addicted to vintage jackets, coats and dresses. I have a penchant for spendy jeans and finding wedge heels that I can easily wear in Mommydom. I LOVE shopping in Europe; things tend to be cut slim and long here, like me. Having an H&M and Zara in pretty much every city you visit isn't too hard on the wardrobe either!
The first look is a gorgeous lunch-with-the-girls, running grown-up errands ensemble that looks polished but still kid-friendly. Kristen reports she’s super comfortable chasing her 17-month-old in heels, but since flares easily disguise all manner of footwear sins, more wobbly mamas could easily get away with lower-heeled comfort shoes, too. In the top photo, Kristen is wearing Paige Lou Lou jeans, a vintage jacket won for $30 on eBay (score!), Tsubo Frye Naiya Kiltie Oxfords, an H&M blouse, bargain sunnies and a B. Makowsky handbag (found at TJ Maxx for $100, of course : ).
In a more casual version of the same outfit, Kristen sports Paige Lou Lou denim in a different wash, the same fab red leather vintage jacket, Tsubo Fadir wedges, a Nollie basic tee, bargain sunnies and a B. Makowsky handbag. The photo was taken atop a castle in Heidelberg—which she hiked up in three-inch wedges : ) lol. Again, the Tsubo Fadir is on the high side, but this look would be just as fab (as long as the flares are short enough > they easily go dumpy when they pool) with a pair of sneaks, like Converse All Stars or Onitsuka Tigers.
Kristen’s two exponentially versatile outfits are a great example of shopping your closet—by just switching out the tops and shoes, she gets two very different looks appropriate for two totally different activities, and looks perfectly-dressed for both. Nursing mamas will appreciate an extra layer of back coverage from the leather jacket. Pregnant mamas can sport this look with an unbuttoned jacket, cute bellies popping out. Working mamas can rock the dressier look in a casual office. And the pops of color are a stellar way to brighten up drab winter staples when you’re ready for spring but the weather isn’t cooperating.
Kristen, you look amazing! Keep in touch with us and have fun traveling Europe with your adorable family!
