White denim is a thing out here in Phila's mainline. A BIG thing. Mike and I went out in Wayne last summer, to a new(ish) Mexican place and I KID YOU NOT every single woman was wearing white jeans, a white skirt, white shorts or a white dress.
(I was wearing my super-short cut-offs and heels. Oops.)
But isn't that crazy?? 100% of the women! All in white with some kind of preppy Lilly/Tory/etc top or shoe or bag or something! It blew my mind. But to be fair, it hasn't happened since (at least not everyone in the bar), but man. That one night shows some serious cultural commitment to preppy white denim.
And I do like preppy…but in smaller doses, perhaps, than the typical mainline Mama. So for the past few summers, I've been trying to figure out how to rock my white denim without falling into the whole Mainline Mom Uniform. Not that it's a bad thing…it's just not really my thing.
My thing is strange hand positions.
Last summer, I was into pairing white denim with blush, army green, or dark chambray. And I still love those combos. But this summer, I'm really crushing hard on the graphic tee trend.
I actually got this idea from Emerson Frye (pinned it here)…crazy good, no? But I'm still looking for my perfect graphic tee. I do like the one I have on…but…something else is out there, Mamas. It calls to me…I can feel it….
Unfortunately, I can't seem to find it. I typically like graphic tees with words rather than pictures…and I'm a pretty die-hard white tee with black letters kind of girl. I'm not totally opposed to a design (and I love the bright red dot japanese flag in my tee above)…but…what? Why is this so hard? I need to stop over-thinking. I'm starting to treat my next graphic tee like a tattoo. GET OVER SELF, S.
Anyways…here are a few graphic tees that have caught my eye.
1. Word T Emerson Frye, $68
This one makes me laugh every time. Every. Time. I also love the boyish fit.
2. Silence T, Duke & Winston, $32
Some days, Mamas, this is all I crave. That's all. Just the sound of….nothing. One would think it wouldn't be too much to ask. ONE WOULD THINK.
3. Great Lakes Surfer, Third Coast Surf Shop, $24
In case you were wondering, you can surf the Great Lakes. MICHIGAN, WHAT? IS AWESOME THAT'S WHAT.
4. Nerd T, Textile Elizabeth and James, $92
But you know what I really want? (Or at least I think I want?) A tee with this on it:
Right?? Ummm…I am assuming there are other Le Petit Prince fans out there. Anyone?
Well. It turns out that I am not alone because you can actually buy a t-shirt like this here. Voila. I am justified.
