Is This The Most Versatile Boot Color Ever? Yes. Yes It Is. (Sponsored Post)

Sole Society asked me to take a peek at their latest footwear line.  If you haven’t heard of Sole Society, they’re an online retailer of on-trend shoes, bags, and accessories at affordable prices.  I was pumped to find a few different iterations of my latest boot obsession:  the short, flat, gray-ish/greenish/dishwater-blondish boot (aka taupe).

I love throwing on boots with my summer standards (Hello, cut-offs) as a way of easing visually into Fall.  For this purpose, short boots work best.  And besides, there’s just something so cool about short boots + bare legs, you know?  It has a relaxed, end-of-summer vibe that I dig.  (And the oh-so-soft-suede that won’t rub annoyingly on my legs is much appreciated, Sole Society.  Keep it up.)

shirt: Elizabeth and James (old)…Madewell has a short-sleeve button-down with a similar vibe

shorts: Abercrombie (ugh, sorry)…but I like the slightly longer length of Minkpink’s Tomboy shorts (on sale for $40)

boots: Sole Society Natasha boots in army

But the other seriously awesome thing about taupe boots?

They’re rockstars with white.

White jeans, cream cords, all of those pale pants that are so tricky to style come winter?  Yup. Taupe boots.

 wearing:

scarf: my sister’s…but Nordstrom’s tissue weight cashmere wrap is on sale, and I can’t stop thinking about the blue posiedon color.  I mean.

sweater: Marc Jacobs sweater

jeans: Levi 535 white jeans (order at least one size up)

bag: Makr Farm Rucksack

bracelets: Chan Luu (similar Chan Luu wrap bracelet), assorted others…try Sole Society’s Chevron bangle with their triple bar bracelet and WHOA…this rough cut, natural stone bangle.

Even better, taupe boots will pair just as nicely with black pants as they do with denim.  Taupe.  The neutral of all neutrals.

If you’re interested, Sole Society has a bunch of seriously cool, everyday boots in taupe.  Now….my definition of taupe is pretty loose.  Sometimes taupe is a bit green (like the pair I’m wearing), sometimes it’s gray.  And sometimes taupe skews a bit warm….almost to camel.  I don’t think it matters – the styling works regardless of the exact shade of taupe.  Just find one you love.   Here are my favorites:

And because I’m still messing around with which widgets work best, here’s a traditional Shop The Post (I threw in some bags, baubles and scarves just for funsies – Sole Society has some really great ones):

Welcome, Fall!

xo,

S

A huge thank you to Sole Society for sponsoring this post!!  As always, all thoughts, opinions, product choices and taupe obsessions are my own.

Oooh I love these boots and the ones with the straps (that you said were your favorite too, which means I’m one step closer to having good style, right?!) I seriously need to dig my short boots out of storage. I love both of these looks, but boots do look so cute with shorts!

I agree with you on taupe! I bought a pair of Frye riding boots a few years ago in the most beautiful shade of gray/taupe and they go with everything! I wear them all the time in the fall and winter, which helps with the old “cost per wear” argument when justifying the high cost 😉

The photographs in this post are gorgeous! I think I might have to buy some new boots. Did you find that the boots fit true to size? The reviews were kind of all over the place.

Well…..hunh. They’re pretty true to size, maybe a *touch* small. I just wish I had got them a half size larger so I could wear my insanely thick woolly socks with them. But with bare feet, it’s perfect. (Maybe they’ll stretch?)

Thanks for the info. Sadly, both pairs that I like are sold out in my size!

    Great outfits! as usual.
This is just a comment about the new site…not sure if I should have emailed but….your other site had a place on the side that showed us recent comments..and on which post. It was helpful to me to see that…so if I made a comment I could see if someone possibly commented after..(instead of going to the post and loading the comment section to look)

I have to ask… what is the fate of the NAS rag and bone boots? These are similar in style and color, but the R&B are just so. freakin. cool.

Yup. Thinking same thing. I’m in lust with them.

I CAN’T DECIDE. I mean…you said it. As soon as I convince myself to return them because I have other *similar* boots, I pull them out and fall in love all over again. I am dithering the dithers of all dithers. UGH.

Oooh, I love this! I got a pair of grey low boots last year that I’m in love with, but I have problems when I try to wear them with skinny jeans. I feel like there is too much jeans going on to stuff in properly! What do you do? Just get skinnier bottomed pants, or some sort of cuffed folding origami that I don’t know about??

Seriously. I either do the Levi 535 thing (legging-jean) or roll the jeans to appear just above the boot.

Love all your choices! I recently bought ones with the slightly higher heel and am surprised how much I’m wearing them, not just date nights! I am super loving the strap ones too. Will you do an update post with these boots when the season gets cooler? Thanks! FYI on the new site too, I had been signed up for emails and recently stopped getting them; not in junk mail either. I’m going to just sign up again but wanted to let you know!

UGH THOSE EMAILS. I need to finally bite the bullet and upgrade that service, but it is SUCH a pain. Stay tuned. (And thanks for the feedback!)

I’m behind. I know short boots are in, but are tall boots most definitely out? Are they “so 5 years ago”?

    • Shannon

Where I live (MN college town near Minneapolis), ALL boots are most definitely ‘in’. Short boots/booties are popular but tall boots are still EVERYWHERE in fall/winter/early spring. I work in an elementary school (= almost all women at my workplace) and the cutest, most stylish teachers and mamas wear tall boots constantly, and I don’t think it’s because we don’t live on a coast and are therefore behind the trends. (I see plenty of trendy things going on here; I think the two elite private colleges in town–which attract lots of affluent east coast students and Ivy-League-trained-professors’ families–keep us more on trend than we might otherwise be.)

        Yes – thanks!

      August 27, 2014

Oh, no! Sorry Renee – I didn’t really mean to hate on the tall boot. They are classics. Total classics. I’m just in some sort of rocker phase (snort) and am just currently sick of tall boots. Unless they’re over-the-knee. Or have that sort of 70’s fabulous vibe. But that’s just me. There are plenty of stylish women still rocking tall boots. 🙂

Thank you for never putting an affiliate link under Abercrombie merchandise (I notice these things!). It’s a classy move and one of the (many) reasons this is one of the very few style blogs left that I’ll happily (and publicly) state I read 😉

Wow – thanks for noticing!! It’s my eternal shame that I can’t seem to find a replacement for the d@mn shorts…but I WILL try again next year. 🙂

Guess who just bought her first pair of low boots, in taupe? I’m calling them my “kids-went-back-to-school” gift.
