Holiday Style: Sequin Skirts Made Wearable

Last year I bought this sequin miniskirt because I LOVED it.  When I got it home, I tried it on and STILL loved it.  But then it hung in my closet.  All. Year.  Never wore it.  Not once.  Am I the only one this happens to?  You see something you love, you buy it, then . . . never . . . quite know . . . how to wear it.  Enter my sister.  I may be the makeup guru, but when I need fashion advice . . . she’s the one to go to.  I used her “formula” (we’re both math geeks) to come up with this outfit.  And?  I LOVE it.  I can wear my awesome sequin skirt, still be warm enough for the UP winters, AND not feel crazy overdressed.  The best part?  It’s actually comfortable.  In Shana’s words, “OMG that’s effing awesome.  Clearly, I’m a genius.”  Yes, she is. 🙂

Wearing:

Faux Leather Jacket (similar)

Plush Fleece Tights

Similar Skirt (this beaded skirt from H&M is gorgeous as well)

Like Shana said in her post, there’s something to be said for wearing all of your favorite things atthesametime.  I have always, always loved leather jackets and sequins.  Adding a graphic t takes it down a notch (in a good way . . . the same way adding a turtleneck to sequin leggings brings the whole look down a notch) and adding opaque fleece tights and ankle boots makes it stylish enough for all your holiday parties but warm enough for the winter weather.

XO,

Scotti

PS – Thanks to the Ore Dock for letting us shoot there and I need to give a big shout out to my very patient husband, Zack, for taking the pics . . . thanks for putting up with me.  😉

  1. Adding to the sequinned bag suggestions, I Just ordered the Aldo Gaskey off of zappos. It was $25 so I felt like I couldn’t pass it up!

  2. I *love* this look! I actually have the lighter version of this Express skirt and wear it a lot. Like with a plain old navy tank and nude heels. So easy and effortless but really chic, ya know?

  3. Am I the only one with a major case of “all dressed up and no place to go”? I don’t have a single fancy dress holiday party to go to this season. We only go to family parties….and unfortunately my family is very, shall we say, casual. I’m obsessed with this Ann Taylor dress and would love to order it but I just don’t know where in the world I’d wear it. 🙁

    • sounds like you need to treat yo’ self and buy it and create your own fun event! at least I would so that I could rationalize a new purchase + fun 🙂

  4. Great look. I have a similar skirt I got last year at Francesca’s. To make it more mom friendly I wear it with a black turtleneck (Shana would approve) or oversized sweater and flat boots.
