How to (Easily) Recreate J. Crew’s NYFW Makeup Look

Shana fell in love with the fresh-faced look on the J. Crew models at NYFW and asked me how to recreate it.  I loved the dewy skin, flushed cheeks and especially the way the eyes and lips are defined without being too precise.  The makeup artist who came up with the look said he wanted it to look as though the models had just come in from skiing. While I skipped the blush on the nose and the bushy brows (I don’t have enough of them to make them bushy!), I think the end result captures the general essence of what they were going for.  A plus?  It’s low-maintenance and easy to recreate on your own.  Watch the video to see how I did it!

Products Used:

Brows: Benefit Gimme Brow

Foundation: Clinique Moisture Surge CC Cream in Light Medium  applied with Urban Decay Good Karma Optical Blurring Brush

Highlighter: Benefit High Beam

Concealer: Urban Decay 24/7 Concealer Stick in FBI applied with bareMinerals Maximum Coverage Concealer Brush

Eyeshadow: Wet n Wild Idol Eyes Shadow Pencil in Pixie

Eyeliner: Urban Decay 24/7 Eyeliner in Baked (discontinued, use “Scorch”)

Brows: Benefit Gimme Brow

Blush: Maybelline Bouncy Blush in Hot Tamale

Lip Color: Laura Gellar Love Me Dew Lip Crayon in Purple Currant with Sephora Collection Ultra Shine Lip Gloss in Pin-Up Pink on top
So now you know how to fake looking like you’ve spent the day on the hill . . . now if I could just fake knowing how to ski.  (I once got stuck spread-eagled at the top of a hill with my skis plunged into the snow on either side of me . . . Shana tried to ask me if I was ok, but I couldn’t hear her over her laughter . . . )

In any case, I hope you enjoy the video!

XOXO,

Scotti

Note from Shana:  Hey there!  I wanted to share pics of reader Sara who used Scotti’s techniques, but skipped the foundation.  Gorgeous, no?

  1. Looks great!…could you do a post on how to conceal dark circles under eyes? brighten? and on puffy eyes? I know its probably been done before…but you have so many new tricks!

  2. Ii love a dewy look and never wear powder, so I am so happy to see this tutorial! any ideas on how to do the contouring/ and highlighting ( fro your last tutorial ) and still keep a dewy look? the powder step seems necessary to tone down the contouring without it looking too dark, but I don’t want to lose the dewy look I have finally found with my foundation, etc. thanks and nice job on the tutorial…. also, did you have other eyeshadow on in the video as well?

      • Hi, Sara here! First, my face is huge in that picture. Second, thank you for the complements.

        I used:
RMS Beauty “UN”Cover up in 00 and 11 for under eye concealer
        RMS Beauty Living Luminizer
Laura Mercier Second Skin Cheek Colour in Lotus Pink
Make Up For Ever Brow Seal and Loreal Brow Stylist Plumper in Medium to Dark (plus some hairspray for some grip on my super slick fine fine brows)
NARS Niagara Satin Lipstick with Butter London Lippy Lip Gloss in Coconut Frock

I didn’t use any eyeliner but would be interested to try Scotti’s recommendation or something similar that is slightly cooler as that eyeliner could very well look orange on my pale pale skin.

        Thanks again!

  3. Sara…I have similar coloring to yours and LOVE your lip color…can you send along what you used in a comment to this post? Thanks!
