I’ve been drooling over ankle-wrap sandals. I especially like ones with skinny straps and and sky-high heels – sexy minimalism at it’s best. I actually wept tears of joy upon seeing Stuart Weitzman’s Nudest sandal for the first time.
I. Can’t. Move.
Once upon a time I was the girl running through the airport in my stiletto heels, dancing all night, and strapping ’em back on for a day at the office. I remember a few of my co-workers joking about the “torture devices” I was wearing on my feet and I honestly had no clue what they were talking about. And besides, my coworkers were – oh GAWD – in their thirties or something so clearly TOO OLD FOR HOT SHOES.[snort] I think wearing heels, especially sky-high heels takes…practice. It takes practice which really just means time and an urge or inclination and I can’t seem to find, in this crazy life, much of any of them. You know?
I’ve gone on a few dates with my husband where I decided that YES, it was a Wear Hot Shoes And Pretty Dress kind of date and I did and then spent most of the evening sitting, which is an awfully big waste of a pretty dress, if you ask me. As it turns out, I much prefer the Wander Around Holding Hands kind of date more than the Where The Eff Is The Taxi sort and…so….yeah. I can work around a ball gown and sneakers, but I can’t seem to work around two skinny strips of leather and 4″ of heel.
When Nordstrom reached out and asked me to take a look at UGG Australia’s new line of sandals…well. I couldn’t say yes fast enough. For there, sitting among some seriously gorgeous wedges and cool, detailed flats was my perfect ankle-strap sandal: Sexy and minimal, but with just enough of a wedge to feel tall (which is really the most important part).
No cabs needed.
dress: Sooo…you guys are going to kill me but I found this silk Parker maxi at my local Nordstrom on the clearance rack for $100. Yeah. Of course I’ve been stalking nordstom.com’s sale section, but…no luck. However, Parker’s Miles Silk Maxi has a similar shape (and an even better back), and if I hadn’t lucked into my clearance find, I would’ve seriously considered Parker’s Fleur Print Silk Dress (a similar print, but short and flirty) or gone totally casual in Rip Curls’ tie-dye maxi (perfect for post-partum and nursing), or Felicity & Coco’s Printed Maxi – such a cool print. Of course, if price is no object, Rachel Zoe’s Pammy Maxi dress made me SWOON. Like whoa.
These shoes were honestly so comfortable, that I wore them walking around during the day, too. And since they look like heels (a little bit, right?) I loved them with boyfriend shorts. (Mike thinks they’re the sexiest shoes I own. But he loves my sneakers, too, so you’ve gotta take that with a grain of salt.)
tee: James Perse Slub Raglan Tee (size 2 for reference)
shorts: Rag and Bone – sold out, but someone has GOT to try these – only $48 and looks seriously perfect.
hat: Rip Curl
sunglasses: Ray-Bans (last season)…but Oxydo has a cool pair of bright blue mirrored sunnies
But there was one other UGG Australia sandal that I want to mention (excuse the bad selfie)….
These are UGG Australia’s Chanez Leather Slide Sandal and I AM INTRIGUED. This shape feels really fresh and modern, and they’re leg-elongating. They’re like a chic flip-flop – perfect for strolling around a city, not so perfect for actual kiddo-chasing. But still. I’m tempted. I like the black, but they also come in nude or a pretty gold. Thoughts?
ONE FINAL UPDATE: The gorgeous, rose-gold UGG Australia Jordyne Sandals were on backorder for a while, but were *just* delivered a few minutes ago. And? They have a seriously cushy footbed and the leather is butter soft. These might be the most comfortable sandals I’ve ever put on my feet. NO JOKE.
A big, HUGE thank-you to Nordstrom for sponsoring this post – comfortable shoes are totally my jam, and I’m always delighted to write about the good ones. As always, all product choices, thoughts, and opinions are my own. (Or as Pax would say, “MINE OWN”.) And readers, thank you for supporting the retailers who help support The Mom Edit – it doesn’t go unnoticed, and is so very much appreciated.
