messy hair and sweatpants tee

We got derailed for a couple of weeks – craziness with a blogging conference and Mother’s Day Gift Guides (speaking of which, have you read ours?  It felt like birthing another baby so please read and leave us gushing comments because OMG this blogging thing is a HARD JOB) but anyway.

We’re back.

My New Favorite T-Shirt

Messy hair you babes!  It’s a lifestyle.  But I paired the whole hot mess with a dorky-knotted sweatshirt (Sorry OE – I just can’t even otherwise), a pretty bra and lipstick because I HAVE MY STANDARDS.

Just kidding.  I put the lipstick on only for the pic.

messy hair, don't care

wearing –

tshirt: ThugLife Shirts (size M for reference)

skinnies: Rag and Bone Skinnies in surf wash (on sale!)

sweatshirt: old O’Neill…but this Hinge floral-print sweatshirt is a pretty take on the norm – just the perfect amount of pattern thrown around your waist

bra: Free People racerback bralette

lipstick: Bite Beauty High Pigment Pencil in Zinfandel

My Travelin’ Outfit

This is what I wore when we flew to Puerto Rico for Spring Break.  I also wore a version of this to Dallas a couple of weeks ago.  It’s my airport-standard.  That anorak is EVERYTHING – so amazingly lightweight, comfortable, and water-resistant (it was WELL TESTED in a Puerto Rican jungle).

wearing –

sweaterEileen Fisher (wearing an XS Petite for reference)

skinnies: Rag and Bone Skinnies in surf wash (on sale!)

jacket: Everlane Anorak c/o (wearing an XS for reference)

When Cams Hated on Birkenstocks So I Had To Represent

Take that, you southern belle.

wearing –

sweater: super insanely old from Piperlime (RIP).

skinnies: Citizens High Rise Rocket Skinny (OE’s fav as well!)

bra: Free People Halter Bra in copper

sandalsBirkenstocks (the version with the softer footbed…SWOON)

On Pax: pants from my new Etsy fav:  HauteTotThreads

The One I Was Really Happy With

I don’t normally go for anything matchy-matchy, but I’m really drawn to bright blue lately and I’m starting to amass a small stockpile.  I think because the overall look was so casual anyway (hoodie, sneakers) that the matchy-matchy worked, rather than make me feel all kinds of uncomfortable.  No pearl clutching for me, thanks.

wearing –

sweaterJ.Crew Cashmere Hoodie (25% off with code YAYMAY)

skinnies: Rag and Bone Skinnies in surf wash (on sale!)

teeJames Perse

sneakers: blue Superga

socks: Converse Cut-For-Chucks socks – I’m not sold on these – they were insanely comfortable at first, but then started slipping down beneath my heel – they might just be too big.  But serious potential for comfort….

hat:  mine is ancient (from Target) but I really like the look of Madewell’s quilted ballcap.

Me and My Little Buddy

Gosh I love that little face.

But with the outfit….I don’t know.  It was one of those mornings I was running too late to think about anything, so I just threw on what was close.  Red, pink, blue, whatever.  I was pleasantly surprised at how well it turned out.  Color.  WOW.

wearing –

sweaterEquipment Asher V-Neck (pink is sold out, but this peach v-neck Equipment sweater is on sale at Revolve)

skinnies: Rag and Bone Skinnies in surf wash (on sale!)

scarf:  Gap (old), but their current striped infinity scarf is similar

sunglasses: Madewell, old…but I love a bright red sunny.  If you’re looking for a pair, I really like Ray-Bans delicate red sunglasses.  So cool.

One Last Variation on This Theme

vans and madewell jeans

wearing –

sweater: Banana Republic Cropped Cable Knit Sweater

skinnies: Madewell highrise skinny jeans c/o (size 24 for reference)

jacket:  Everlane Swing Trench c/o (XS for reference….it also comes in OXBLOOD which I’m dying over)

The #myeverdayedit Community

Here are just a few of my favs.  Easy stuff I plan to copy, stat.  Thanks for the inspiration, you guys.

Clockwise, top left:

1. @glfleck is killing it on a regular basis.  I especially love the whole sexy, off-the-shoulder thing she has going on here.  Killer flats never hurt either.

2. @agirlandherloves is seriously rocking those sweatpants.  (They might not actually BE sweatpants….but they certainly will be when I recreate this outfit.)

3. @krembdelakremb has created my perfect summer uniform:  soft, printed shorts + graphic tee (and flip-flops!).  Thanks, Babe.

4.  High-Five to @the_fly_mommy for her overall game.  Not just the outfit (which is totally on point – those SHOES!!), but for demonstrating it so perfectly.

Join us!!  It’s a pretty low-pressure, FUN community.  Just look at these faces!  These are the FACES OF FUN!

Also, side-eye.  (Love the tee, @lawmamaliz!)

To play along (or just observe – it’s fine if you prefer to stalk), follow me on Instagram (@shanachristine).  Also, if you really and truly love each and every one of us, @scottiliz has some makeup before-and-afters coming soon, @camilledipaola‘s cool photography and funny faces always make my day, and the way @girlmeetsbaby dresses her kiddos makes me SWOON.

  1. A tip on the converse socks… I just had the girl in the converse store tell me over the weekend that unless you wear a 9 or 10, she strongly suggests getting the kid’s socks. Otherwise they slip down because, as you suspected, they’re too big.

  2. Thank you all for your continued hard work. I love all the different styles and personalities represented by each of you. This blog has definitely help me pull together some sense of my own style. Too bad blogs (or the Internet) wasn’t around in high school. Could have minimized my dorkiness…

    • Amanda – THANK YOU. Adding contributors was a bit of a leap of faith….but I love that we’re better able to represent a wider range of perspectives. Appreciate you taking the time to leave this lovely comment.

  3. Question: I LOOOVE those Free People lace bras, but they seem so flimsy (uncupoed and unlined) for my d-cup self. Is that the only bra you wear or so you layer it over a regular bra?

    • Annika – Because of my mastectomy/reconstruction, I don’t actually NEED a bra for support purposes. BUT. The Free People halter bra (the copper colored one – not the pink) has gotten majorly rave reviews from D-cup girls. We’ve even gotten a few ‘thank you it totally worked!’ comments over here.

  4. Oh wow! Thanks Shana!! I feel so honored that you chose to highlight me from #myeverydayedit! I seriously check that feed often and have found some very stylish women to follow from this hashtag. Thanks for getting it started and helping it to grow. It’s fun!

    Love you LADIES!!

    Keep it up;D

Ann from Kremb de la Kremb

    • PS Shana, Sometimes I forget to comment about you all! Oops. My faves from your #myeverdayedit are….all the pops of blue! With your brown eyes, blue looks really nice–the sunnies and the cobalt blue day. Shana….have you given blue mascara a go yet? I was a firm wearer during the month of April, and it is F U N ! Try it and let me know what you think… A x

  5. Teresa Liguori on

I am going to try that FP bra too. I’m having some serious bra appearances lately with maxi dresses and tanks but my natural dds need some support. I know you’ve done some pretty nursing bras but if you could do a pretty underwire bras with pretty straps or something that wouldn’t let me look to skanky that would be awesome.
Also, have you seen the show “Younger”? My hair stylist told me about it and been hooked.

  6. Nike makes a great no show sock as well. I got mine from Nordstrom and they have a small piece of rubber on the heel part that keeps them from slipping.

  7. How is your J.Crew cashmere hoodie holding up? Last year I bought one and returned it because of a bad zipper (a common complaint if you read the reviews). But, it’s nearly impossible to find a decent one from anywhere else.

  8. Myeverydayedit question: Now that I am officially wearing ‘mom jeans’ (Madewell’s perfect summer) can I still wear the fanny pack (Herschel) you inspired me to buy last season? Or am I now just dressing up like my 10 year old self?

  9. Old Navy makes surprisingly good footies. I also love the Smartwool Secret Sleuth; just be warned that they shrink in the dryer, so if you are between sizes, order up.

I am seriously intrigued by your Tieks and Super Gas. I have been considering both for summer tourist travel in Scotland. Supposedly similar to spring in Seattle, in that it might get to 70 degrees and rains a fair amount. Would you recommend both for all day walking on hilly, cobblestone streets?

  10. I’ve been eyeing that anorak for a while, but I’m nervous it might be too long on me. I’m 5’4. The jacket looks so good on you! How tall are you?
