Thanks to random days in the high 80s, it’s feeling like a fast-forward to summer around here – just in time for a patio furniture roundup! There are so many tempting choices, especially since our outdoor furniture did not survive this year’s New England winterpalooza (sad pic after the jump). Check out what I found for sprucing up your outdoor space since Memorial Day is right around the corner (seriously, wasn’t it just April??)

I had so much fun putting this one together. Patio furniture has come a long way since memories of sunbathing marathons on plastic lounge chairs that left strap impressions and stuck to sweaty, sunblock-free skin (smacks teenage Amanda)! Here are some seriously cool modern outdoor furniture picks in case yours needs some updating.

Relaxing

Glider Bench Target Threshold Bryant Faux Wood Glider Bench – I love the modern style on a piece of furniture I’d associate with grandma, and the fact that it looks like wood but is actually maintenance-free aluminum. We learned the hard way that the only patio furniture (and plants) that survives at my house has to be low- or no-maintenance!

Swing ChairPier 1 Willow Swingasan – Rainbow – This one is definitely a statement piece, but it’s super fun for kids (ok, and me). My 4 year old would flip over it – imagine the childhood summer memories featuring this chair. Magical.

Dining

Outdoor Dining Table West Elm Mid Century Dining Table – This. Is. Gorgeous. Like I want it in my dining room so I can see it every day kind of gorgeous. And it’s on sale! It is wood, so you’d have to store it for the winter, but other than that it should hold up with little maintenance. Also available in a larger size and a lighter Teak color.

Outdoor UmbrellaL.L. Bean Market Umbrella – You have two choices in the umbrella space – pick a less expensive, fun style and replace it every year or two due to fading, or spend a little more for fabric that laughs in the face of sun and weather damage, like Sunbrella. This is the best price I’ve seen for a Sunbrella patterned umbrella, and stripes will never go out of style. Also comes in hunter green, but I have mad love for navy.

Outdoor Dining ChairsBlu Dot Hot Mesh Chair – The modern geometric design on this metal chair is fantastic, and I totally identify with the product name. These are especially high on my wish list because they’re stackable (saves space and they won’t blow away in summer thunderstorms) and metal, so maintenance-free. Also comes in cheery hues like blue, green, yellow or always-cool black or white.

Chatting

Patio Chairs West Elm Mast Bistro Chair – These. I can’t take my eyes off them! The white color blocking is so fresh with the navy stripes. They look so inviting for settling in for a long chat with friends or the hubby while the kids entertain themselves quietly nearby. Bwahahaha.

Garden Stool Target Threshold Ceramic Accent Table Cream/Gold – The ‘it girl’ of the patio set, this stool is understated cool with a dose of sparkle. It would make the perfect place to set a cocktail or three while catching up on some grown-up conversation after the small folk are in bed.

It was really REALLY hard to narrow it down to these picks, so here’s a boutique full of patio furniture inspo.

And here’s what happens when you forget to put your patio furniture inside after a New England winter. WOMP womp. PS – The umbrella was not originally pink.

  1. I have a small table and chairs in the same line as that modern glider from target- they are awesome because they fold up, so they spend summers (and one winter, whoops) out on the balcony and most winters folded up against the wall outdoors or along the back wall of my hall closet. After four years, they’re still in great shape- the “wood” is a little grayer, which I like better than the original reddish anyways, and the metal sides look brand new. They’re small- definitely sized for my petite apartment balcony- so thats why the price is so low, but the quality is awesome. You go, Target!

    • I love this. And Crate and Barrel makes a cool roll-up table that we trot in and out almost every day in the summer. Portable for picnics at the park, etc.
