Fall is upon us! I love the falling leaves, the plaid scarves, the boots, the sweaters, the pumpkin spice everything (candles, lattes, donuts, bread, pies . . . ok now I’m just naming baked goods that I love), and of course…fall beauty. We’ve scoured magazines, internet and beauty stores to bring you our favorites for Fall 2015. The Mom Edit’s beauty trends are all about simple looks using one or two products that everyone can wear. Whether you’re a beauty novice or total junkie, these trends can be mastered very easily.
To illustrate the trends, I grabbed a few of my best friends, supplied them with wine, and had them over for a “makeup party” juuust like high school. They were such good sports and I think it really helps to see the trends on different faces. Besides….FUN.
1. Go All 90’s With A Matte Smokey Brown Eye
Like a lot of trends this fall, this one is a throwback to the 90’s. Less is more with this look. Keep the lips neutral and use just one or two brown matte eyeshadows (three if you’re really crazy) on your lid. The key is blending. Put the lighter of the two on the inner corners, the darker on the outer corners and blend them as needed.
On Rachel, I kept the look mainly on her lids and on myself (below) I blended the color outwards a bit more. There’s no right or wrong way with this look . . . it’s all about your preference. Just leave the shimmer and sparkles out of it. (And see #5 if you really like the shimmer and sparkle!)
MAC Eyeshadow in Soft Brown and Espresso (Embark is a good option if you want a darker look and can replace liner). MAC shadows are grouped by finish so it’s easier to find colors . . . the matte colors are followed by an (M).

2. Vamp Your Lips
Janine is NOT used to wearing lipstick, but she was game to try anything. We started out with a darker color that just didn’t look quite right on her. That’s the beauty of the vampy, wine lip . . . you can go lighter or darker to suit your taste and still be right on-trend. My best tip is to buy a clear lipliner (like Urban Decay’s 24/7 Glide on Liner in Ozone) and use it to line outside your lip line. This will prevent bleeding and feathering of whatever lipstick you want to wear and doesn’t require you to buy a matching lipliner for every color. (ALSO: you don’t want chapped lips for this look . . . to exfoliate your lips put some balm on, let it sink in and scrub gently with a wash cloth.)
Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Lip Pencil in Ozone (line outside your lips with this clear color to prevent feathering of any lipstick . . . this is one of my must-have beauty products!)

Stila Stay All Day Vinyl Lipgloss in Merlot Vinyl (I like this gloss almost as much as their liquid lipstick . . . this gloss had serious staying power)
3. Gild Your Lilies (I Mean Your Lids)
For Fall 2015, I’m loving golden, coppery shades. The beauty of this look (besides, uh, so pretty), is that it’s so darn easy, and only requires two products to get major WOW.
Press the powder onto your lid over Urban Decay’s Eyeshadow Primer Potion. The primer is key to getting the shadow to adhere to your lid and stay on . . . it helps to get the opacity right rather than having just a sheer wash of color. Metallic shadows can be crumbly and pressing them into your lid rather than brushing them on will help to prevent shadow fallout all over your face. I love the glistening effect of this look!

4. Add A Little Light To Your Eyes (Subtle Gold Eyeliner)
For the easiest, quickest version of this trend, pick a metallic-colored eyeliner and draw a line just under the lower lid. This look is subtle but it’s a great every day option when you AGNT. (Ain’t got no time). I’d try Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eyeliner in Gilded (the color I’m wearing) or Sepia, a grey-taupe metallic color. This is my new favorite eyeliner (I’m also wearing it below in my graphic eyeliner example) . . . because it has serious staying power.

5. Go Mod With A Wearable Cat-Eye
I love how thick eyeliner can almost work as an accessory, and this fall the thicker the better. Major eyeliner also creates the illusion of more lashes and can lift the look of your entire face. (Facelift via pencil?) My favorite tool for this task? Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eyeliner.
*Lots of magazines suggest using a credit card to keep the line straight, but I suggest using scotch tape! Press a small piece onto the back of your hand (to take off some of the stickiness) and then line it up to exactly where you want your eyeliner to be. Even if you mess up, you’ll have a straight line when the tape comes off!
Maybelline Master Precise Liquid Eyeliner in Black (Although the tip made this liner easier to work with, it didn’t last as long as I’d like . . . I’d suggest Stila’s Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner if you’re looking for staying power. It has the same easy-to-use tip but will last!)
6. Go Graphic In Green (Or Blue Or Purple Or…)
Classic cat-eyes are great (and the mod look is so on-trend this Fall), but for a twist, I’m loving major eyeliner in an unexpected color. Find one close to your eye color to really make them pop! (Brown-eyed girls – try navy blue, and purple works on EVERYONE. Really.)
You can do a cat eye, or if your hand isn’t that steady, do what Shana does – just line top and bottom in a thick line and smudge.

(anyone notice I’m not wearing my lashes here? hee hee)
7. Big, Bad, BROWS
There’s no doubt that major brows are a huge trend this Fall (Cara D, anyone?). But major brows are seriously tricky – you’ve gotta have the hair, for one thing (I don’t), and they can change the look of your face in a pretty drastic way. So we’ll be doing an in-depth feature on brows: How to fake ’em when you don’t have the hair (or as close as you can get) or how to enhance ’em when you do.
(If you’re interested, you can see a review I did of Anatasia’s Brow Wiz vs Dipbrow here.)
So that’s our Fall Beauty Trends! Try one or two or throw them all together . . . bold brows, metallic lids, wine lips, go nuts!
yup, that’s about as big as my brows will get
And in keeping with the high-school theme night….
. . . SELFIES.
A HUGE thank you to Rachael, Kelly, Janine and Jess for playing along and letting me use them as guinea pigs! It’s so much fun to do these kinds of articles with friends! (And a “little bit” of wine.)
