Dressing Up A Black Turtleneck Sweater. Twice.

Last year, we did NYE in a big, HUGE way.  Scotti did my makeup – flapper girl style, complete with a feather headband – and then we donned pretty, pretty dresses and danced the night away.  Of course, our guys (and even our mom!!) came too.  (Our mom’s the coolest.)

This year is going to be a little more low-key.  We’ll be celebrating with dear friends from Colorado (can’t WAIT to see you guys!!), and there will definitely be champagne, laughter…and probably a turtleneck.

Ok.  Knowing me, definitely a turtleneck.

Here are a couple of ways that I’m dressing up my beloved:  the black turtleneck sweater.

With Boyfriend Jeans and Matching Bracelets

Ah, boyfriend jeans and turtlenecks.  How I love you so.  And yes:  I know this combo is nothing new – I’ve been wearing it for years.   In fact, the first official appearance was a guest post on Rookie Moms!  (That toddler is RAINES OMG.)

But I’ve updated this combo somewhat….with sexy sock boots, and matching bracelets.  For NYE, I like my bracelets totally ridiculous and over-the-top, but here’s another example with something a little more subtle.

Wearing

sweater:  Equipment Cashmere Turtleneck Sweater (xs)

jeans: Seven for All Mankind Skinny Josephina Boyfriend Jeans (size down) – also at Nordstrom Rack

bag: Ostrich feather clutch is similar. This Topshop feather bag is amazing, too.

shoes: Weitzman perfection booties (sold out), but Free People makes a seriously good sock boot) or try this Topshop one if you prefer a higher heel

bracelets: Banana Republic Cameo Bracelets (on sale!)

With A Pretty, Pretty Skirt and Fancy Tights

Because the top is so simple, it can stand up to a little crazytown below.  My version of crazytown is a pretty skirt, patterned tights, and a glam bag – offset by the simple turtleneck, it works.

Because I’m never really that fancy, I toned the whole thing down even further with a parka.  But a faux fur coat would also work and keep the vibe dressier.

Wearing

parka: S13 Canyon Parka (xs for reference) – on sale!

sweaterEquipment Cashmere Turtleneck Sweater (xs)

skirt: Maje Skirt (size 36) – also at Bloomingdales (both on sale)

bag: Kate Spade New York ‘who moi?’ Glitter Clutch

tights: My own. Try these geometric tights or this pair.

boots:  Free People Cecile Bootie

On Raines:

Jeans – Hudson Jagger Jean

Tee – Peek Layering Thermal

Sweater – Tucker + Tate Shawl Collar Cardigan

Shoes – Adidas ‘Superstar Foundation’ Sneakers

Hey Philly – have you checked out Stadler Kahn?  It’s the craziest little gift shop.  I love their mugs and chocolate for a hostess gift, and the 3-D cards.  So fun.

Enjoy your NYE!!

Love that top look! Can you recommend a more affordable version of a non-clingy turtleneck?

Megan try Gap’s merino turtleneck sweater. Not as luxurious as cashmere but great price, machine washable and indestructible.

I love a warm sweater dressed up! And I had totally forgotten that I found you through Rookie Moms back when I was a brand new mom and a friend gave me their book at my baby shower.

Same problem with Bloglovin’, just tried to unfollow/follow to see if that gets it back.

I love this turtleneck, but I can’t wear wool; even cashmere makes me itch! Can you suggest any non-wool options?

I love the black turtle neck too, always and forever. Also, I love the pics of you with your boys… how grown up is Raines now! I have an almost 7 year old who seems to have turned big from little overnight… suddenly his wee hands feel ginormous when we walk together holding hands 🙁
