NYE idea: Sequin Pencil Skirt

I’ve had sequin skirts on the brain since I saw this outfit…I mean, stop it. How did she just make a sequin skirt look so cool? Anyways, as soon as I saw this cheap H&M option, I put together a couple of outfits – one casual and another more party-ready, because NEW YEAR’S EVE and it’s important to always be ready to party. *snort* Really though. When is there ever a better time to wear sequins than NYE?

That’s the answer to that question.

Sequin Skirt Outfit #1: Casual for Every day Scenarios

You know when you have an outfit idea and it looks awesome in your head, but then not so much when you actually put it on? Well, that was me with this damn sequin pencil skirt and sneaker idea. I always think a pencil skirt will be the greatest thing to ever happen to my wardrobe and can totally be worn with flats of some sort, when…no. On me it just ends up looking meh.

WHATEVZ. I wore it anyways and felt relatively cool in it, so. *peace sign*

outfit details

tee: Sincerely Jules ‘Lips & Lashes’ Tee – the fit is good and TTS on these…a little slouchy, but not too slouchy.

jacket: Levi’s Utility Jacket – this has been a favorite of mine since last year…I’ve worn it through Fall, layered in Winter and then in early Spring.

denim: Treasure & Bond, no longer available – this Madewell jacket is very similar. I like to layer mine under other jackets, especially during the Winter – makes an outfit fun and different.

skirt: H&M Sequin Skirt – definitely comfortable and fits well. I just think it looks better with a heel. This shorter sequin skirt from Ann Taylor would have been a better option for this casual outfit.

shoes: New Balance Classics WL410v1 – fantastic sneaker. I wear them. all. of. the. time.

bag: Sole Society Satchel – I linked to one that is similar to my own. Sole Society has never done me wrong in the handbag department.

Sequin Skirt Outfit #2: for when you’re ready to PARTAAAAY

(yes, I did say that in a Kristen Wiig from Bridesmaids voice)

Yeh, so I really liked the skirt with a heel, even a smaller one. The skirt needs more leg. It just does.

BTW:  I am dying over these shoes (& they are cheeeeeap, my friends)…

outfit details

tee: Sincerely Jules graphic tee – there are a few other really cool looking ones in her line, too…

jacket: old moto jacket – I recently came across this Treasure & Bond Moto Jacket , which is a an awesome option.

skirt: H&M Sequin Skirt

heels: Who What Wear Angelique Quarter Strap Pumps – LOVE THESE. The heel isn’t too high and they are so darn pretty. I suggest going up a half size though, because my size is a bit tight on me.

clutch: Sole Society – old, but I really like this Black Exotic Crossweave Clutch. I’ve had this clutch for a couple of years now and it has held up really well. I grab it anytime I run out by myself or just with Matt…and add the strap and it’s a cross body. Always nice!

Oh, and okay, so this J. Crew Sequin Party Top is rockin’ my world right now. Raw-edge cropped jeans and the shoes I’m wearing in this post? Mmmmm hmmmm.

You can call that a bonus idea. 😉

  1. Always love your posts, Cam. I love the top half of the first outfit (and the sneaks!) and am wondering, to make the whole look casual, what would you wear in place of the skirt? Just some regular blue denim, or…? Love the skirt, too, just wondering how to make top half wearable in an every day sense. Thanks!

  2. I love this! I have a deep copper colored sequin pencil skirt that I got on sale from J Crew eons ago, but I have never figured out how to style it. This post is helpful but still leaves me wondering about color palette, since it’s a pretty distinctive color… any suggestions?

  3. I love the the fact that the sequin skit hides all the snow, mud, duck poop, etc one gets on one’s tummy after carrying a little one around. Who would have thought that could be a style dilemma? Sequin skit = solved!
