Fun Modern Holiday Sweaters for Kids

Have you guys seen this year’s range of cool, offbeat holiday sweaters out right now for kids? (Apparently some of you have, since the boutique I set up a few weeks ago got decimated during Black Friday/Cyber Monday!) In case you’re still looking for a holiday outfit that looks nice, lets kids express some personality and is comfortable, I found some that check all those boxes, and at reasonable prices, too! Think cheeky spins on traditional patterns (from astronauts to ice cream cones), unique color combinations and versatility to wear beyond the holidays.

For baby & toddler girls, I love a holiday sweater dress with leggings and furry boots. So easy and cozy, and no worries about a shirt riding up and exposing her back while getting in & out of the carseat.  Joules sent over the most adorable penguin sweater dress on little gingersnap up there, can you see the sparkles in the silver knit? (I tried my best to get shots where she wasn’t moving, but technically that’s impossible with a two year old.) The beak is shiny silver and there are pretty buttons, so it’s definitely dressy enough for holiday events. Sizing does run big – this is a 2/3T and the cuffs are rolled up pretty far – on the plus side, it’ll fit next winter, too!

If penguins aren’t your jam you’re dead inside, here are some more unexpected, modern spins on holiday classics. Featuring astronauts, foxes, gnomes, ice cream cones & hamburgers. No joke.

Modern Holiday Sweaters for Boys

(clockwise from top left)

Holiday Star Wars Sweater: Sure to be a fan fave for lots of boys – good thing it comes in sizes for toddlers through teens!

Astronaut Sweater, Boden:  Loving the striped sleeves and pop of holiday red, but not too themed to wear all winter (30% off, no code needed)

Tucker & Tate Shawl Collar Cardigan: The retro vibe & cool southwestern pattern on this soft sweater is just right for big boys. Sizes 7-20.

Intarsia Gnome Cardigan, Gap: Gnomes. I can’t with this cuteness. All sizes still available for little guys, newborn through 24mo (currently 40% off at Gap through 12/1 with code UPDATE)!

Oh What Fun Sweater, Gap: Love this for baby’s first (or second, or third if they’re teeny!) holiday season. (currently 40% off at Gap through 12/1 with code UPDATE)!

Tiger Sweater, Joules: Ack this is so cute for little misters (12m-3T)! Would love to see this with festive plaid pants or buttondown underneath.

Polar Bear Fair Isle Sweater: The way Crewcuts incorporated fish into the traditional fair isle pattern is so cute & modern. Free shipping!

Modern Holiday Sweaters for Girls

(clockwise from top left)

Fun Pom Pom Sweater, Boden: The unexpected color combo is so refreshing. On sale!

Girls Food Fair Isle Sweater, Crewcuts: This spin on a traditional pattern is perfect for your emoji-loving kid – the ice cream cones & burgers are so fun. (30% off with code FESTIVE & Free Shipping!)

Tucker & Tate Geometric Pattern Pullover: Loving the softer (but still fun) color scheme and fuzziness!

Wrapover Cardigan: The option to wear this sweater open is so cool. (Check out the model’s pic in the pink/gray color option) Looks great buttoned, too.

Tucker & Tate Cotton & Cashmere Sweater: So soft + cozy, coral/navy/gray is always a good color combo.

Mini Boden x Roald Dahl Wonka Hat Sweater: The candy embroidery is incredibly detailed and Boden quality never fails. So festive but not too holiday-themed for wearing all winter. Add a nostalgic soft spot for Roald Dahl books and I can’t resist!

Mini Boden x Roald Dahl Majester Sweater: Sequins, jewels, sparkly purple yarn, rich colors and a fun fuzzy black & white side stripe add up to a royally cute sweater option. (Cheesy, yes, but it’s holidayyys!) Thinking my picky princess might actually dig this…tbd.
