A Dark and Moody Valentine’s Day Outfit

While most thoughts in February turn to pinks and reds and roses….I’m looking for something moodier.  Black lace, perhaps, or something in a deep, dark navy – a color whose power is often underestimated.

This Valentine’s Day I want to curl up somewhere (clad in navy and black, of course) with dim lighting, good drinks, and a certain guy, that after almost 18 years of marriage, I still find devastatingly handsome.

In that slightly nerdy, nice-guy way of his.

Life advice:  Never underestimate the slightly nerdy, nice guy.  They’re something.

Outfit Details

silk cami: Fleur du Mal lace cami (size xs for reference) also here

jacket: James Perse double breasted sweatshirt blazer (sold out) – if you’ve been reading this blog awhile, you’ll know my complete and total devotion to this blazer that looks sharp, yet feels like a sweatshirt.  Mine is long gone, but James Perse just came out with a single breasted blazer in the same material.  Too pricy?  I get it – mine was purchase at the Nord Anni Sale, then try LOFT’s Fringe Jacket Sweater or Olivia Moon’s Knit Blazer (the key is to size down!  I wear this one in a petite XXS.  It’s currently on sale, too!!)

jeans: AG The Legging Ripped Skinny Jeans in 10 year well worn (FYI these might be my MOST worn jean ever – size 24 for reference – I sized down because they are SO soft)

boots: Free People Cecile Block Heel Bootie

bag: old – but here’s a similar one…or try Macy’s.

necklace: NinoBrand Ronnie Choker

Dark and Moody Tops For Valentine’s Day

Here are a few (or 55, ha) of my favorite date night tops.   I tried to find ones in a range of prices, but to make the list, they all had to be pieces that I would actually want to wear.

  1. Presumably the “wardrobe malfunction” tops could be secured with fashion tape or toupee tape if you didn’t want to layer them. Curious how comfortable wearing that stuff is but it’s apparently a costume designer standard solution to such low cuts.

    • I taped padded cups to my boobs with fashion tape, and then an entire shirt cut down below my belly button for my Molotov Cocktease costume (from The Venture Bros. cartoon) for Halloween one year. The entire V- part of the shirt was taped to my body. The tape was fine, it didn’t bother me at all. Removing the padded cups was a bit painful, but other than that, I highly recommend the tape! So many details, but long story short, that tape works!

  2. I wish I could get your abs with a click, Shana. As much as I loved the outfit, that was what I wished I had the most when I first saw the pic. 😉
