$50 Shift Dress Styled 4 Ways

This Leith shift dress has long been one of my favorites . . . it’s an easy dress to throw on and go, dress up or dress down and comes in a ton of colors (which change all the time).  The cut is super flattering for all body types and doesn’t hug like some dresses do – even for this pear-shaped girl.  Bonus: It’s machine-washable (hang to dry) and under $50.  Here are four ways I’m wearing it:

Denim Jacket + Statement Necklace

Add a colorful necklace, skin-toned sandals to lengthen legs and a denim jacket (this one is actually borrowed from my husband!) and it’s a perfect day-to-night look.

Wearing:

Leith Dress (Size XS, Available in a ton of colors, including bright red)

Booties (similar, also in black)

Denim Jacket (similar, I also like this one if you aren’t into the rips)

Statement Necklace (similar and currently 40% off, as is this beautiful necklace that I’ve been lusting after since it came out!)

Leather Jacket + Black Accessories

Add a little edge with a faux leather moto jacket and black accessories . . . this would look great with a smokey eye!

Wearing:

Leith Dress (Size XS, Available in a ton of colors, including bright red)

Faux Leather Jacket (my favorite – I wear it alllll the time and it’s currently 33% off)

Aerosoles Sandals (these are crazy comfortable and come in lots of fun colors)

Nickel & Suede Black Accent Leather Earrings

Turtleneck + Booties

It’s still kind of cold here, so I could definitely get away with this layered look now . . . and probably add tights in the fall.

Wearing:

Leith Dress (Size XS, Available in a ton of colors, including bright red)

Black Turtleneck (similar)

Free People Booties (one of the best investments I’ve made in boots . . . these are comfortable & last forever)

Fancy Accessories

The dress is wedding-appropriate with just a few fancy upgrades: shoes, bag and some sort of statement jewelry (I’m always partial to earrings!).

Wearing:

Leith Dress (Size XS, Available in a ton of colors, including bright red)

J. Crew Earrings (available in more colors)

Steve Madden Heels (also available in lots of colors)

Black Sequin Clutch (similar)

  1. This is such a great dress! I bought it during my first trimester of pregnancy and the cut is forgiving enough that I wore it until I was almost 20 weeks pregnant. Two summers later (and not pregnant) I’m still wearing it and getting compliments on it. Great post, Scotti!

  2. Elizabeth Rafter on

One of the most versatile dresses I own! I wear this all. the. time. Love all the ways it’s styled here! And I have all the heart eyes for that first necklace!!!!

  3. I had a similar dress in a similar colour from Kenneth Cole a few years ago – super versatile. I styled it all the ways you did on a regular basis, as well as some other favourites: leopard print shoes with denim or black jacket (leather or suiting, either worked for where I worked); gold sandals and gold jewellery; knee high boots (maybe over the knee if proportions are right) and wrap cardi.

  4. What a great dress- and the color is gorgeous on you. A sizing question- does it run big? I noticed you got an XS, but it says that is for size 0? I’m typically a 4/6.

    • So I think it runs big . . . I’m much smaller on top than on bottom (a 2-4 on top and a 6-8 on bottom). I’d take advantage of Nordstrom’s return policy and try a few sizes (and colors!). LOL

  5. That color is super flattering on you! Two questions…are you using a self tanner in these pics? And…are you still doing 21 Day Fix? Your legs look fab!

    • Thank you! So for the self-tanner, I actually use Sally Hansen’s Airbrush Legs (http://rstyle.me/n/cnmcy8bcujf) instead of a self-tanner because it seems easier to me. Just spray, rub in and go. And for the 21 Day Fix I fell off the wagon over the holidays but just started getting back to it last month . . . I’m loving the 21 Day Fix Extreme to switch up the routine a bit. So thank you for noticing! 🙂

  6. i have this dress in black and it’s officially the most flattering one that i own. i have worn it to rehearsal dinners and all kinds of outings. worth it’s weight in gold and i LOVE the turtleneck styling!! brilliant.

  7. I’m with Kelley. Your legs are killer! As a curvy 🍐 also, I ordered several sift & swing dresses last summer. You have renewed my interest …and thanks for posting one with sleeves. Just ordered the Aerosoles. Smokin’ hot.
