Buckled Ballet Flats – How I’ve Been Wearing Them

Oh, buckled ballet flats. You are the coolest.

When I first saw the trend pop up about 6 months ago, courtesy of Miu Miu (and on beautiful Misty Copeland no less), I was immediately obsessed. However, I knew it wasn’t a shoe I would actually buy (hello $$) and, not to mention, they didn’t appear to be a very realistic shoe for a mama running around after her kids, so boooooo.

It was a style I needed to get my hands on and try for myself, though…considering that it’s now THE shoe to wear. So…I looked around for a more easy, every day version and I came across these Steve Maddens. Yessssss. Thank you. They are fantastic. I’m not surprised either. I’ve had a long, healthy relationship with Maddens. They always seem to be just the right thing for me.

Anyways, this is how I’ve been wearing the hot new shoe trend…and damn it, no. It doesn’t include gauzy tutus, leotards or chiseled dancer calves. It does, however, involve some seriously chunky baby thighs…and I don’t know, that may be even better than the aforementioned.

top: Madewell Stripe Courier Shirt – More sizes here. This shirt is a MUST HAVE. I love it, love it, love it. It has buttons up the back…and can be buttoned and unbuttoned. I usually unbutton a few at the bottom, for a little open back action. It’s a fantastic top! I’ve been wearing it every other day.

jeans: Levi’s 505c Cropped Slim Straight Jeans – this is a cute jean…with a high waist and that trendy cropped style. I actually cropped mine even further, by chopping them right above the hem line. I just wanted that raw edge look.

shoes: Steve Madden Spirits Buckle Flat – great flat shoe. It’s an affordable option that runs TTS. It also comes in black, btw.

bag: Rebecca Minkoff Julian backpack – so. I finally jumped on the Julian backpack train with the rest of the TME team. It was about time…and wow. What a great bag. I didn’t know what I was missing until now. The smell of it alone! I feel so legit now. I can’t find my navy one…if any of you know where it can be found, let me know. I do love the black, though.

  1. I love the little toddler photobombs in these photos – may even love them more than your new cute shoes! 🙂 Shoes are definitely those things I’ll save on and wait until there’s a more affordable version around so I understand why you waited until you found the perfect pair in your budget! 🙂

I really like your striped top here too – so perfect with the jeans, but stripes really are perfect with anything aren’t they!

Hope you are having a great start to the week! I just published my first eBook so the week is starting brilliantly for me! 🙂
