Styling Spring Work Wear Pieces for the Weekend

Ok. Confession time, y’all. Can you believe this tattooed, Portlander, artist girl was once in a sorority? Hahaha. I can’t either. Kappa Kappa Gamma, ladies. But that was just what you did in the South in college. And parts of it were a serious blast. And we wore all the preppy 90’s clothing you can imagine.

These days I don’t work in an office or have the need (or desire) to dress the same way I once did, but I still find myself drawn to a few things you’d consider preppy…like crisp cotton tops in blue and white stripe. I die over them. I cannot quit the stripes. Ever. But I always have to play with ways to make these structured, put-together pieces more me. That usually means black or ripped denim and, in this case, it meant both!

I love the contrast of pairing these types of pieces together. For me, this works well for a dressier occasion like the occasional casual meeting or Sunday brunch. If you want to take this to the office, I think a pair of non-ripped, dark black jeans would do the trick for adding a little edge but being work appropriate.

I’m realizing lately that I love a tie-waist blouse, too. It really defines my not-so-existent waist area and is such a help for us petites and those of us with a straighter figure. UGH. Sadly, this J.Crew top is sold out! But I’m adoring this one from Madewell (of course) and this blue and white striped one shoulder option.

Those cherry blossoms, right? There is a small window each year in Portland where they are in full gorgeous snowing-down-petals bloom. We were able to finally hit it on a great weekend (hence the crowds) to experience their amazingness. Meanwhile, 40mph winds came a few days later and…yeah. Glad we went when we did.

Look at that girlie of mine. Such a stinker and such a cutie and such a buddy these days. All rolled into one almost-four-year-old.

I digress. Love this outfit combo. It’d be great for brunch, casual Mother’s Day celebrations, happy hour rosé on someone’s patio, date night…it’s an easy go-to for spring events.

Outfit Details

Top (sold out!!! – similar) – Madewell Button Down Tie Tunic  and this blue and white striped one shoulder option. And I’ve rounded up quite a few more tie tops below.

JeansMadewell High Riser Skinny in Black Sea – My forever favs. True to size. 9″ rise. I cropped them a bit more here.

ShoesLouie Et Cie Karisa Ankle Cuff Sandal – Love this shoe. The block heel is on trend and the color is gorgeous. It’s called Beige but it’s really more of a blush in real life. Block heels are a small adjustment to walk in, but not because they are tall, because they’re a little clunkier than what I’m used to. These are soft on the ankle and toe box though and very comfy.

BagRebecca Minkoff Julian Backpack – Fav ever. This is my second one because I just can’t seem to migrate on from this fabulous bag. I have the full size, but these  links are to the medium size (full size is hard to find in Putty.) Full size in gorgeous Blush here.

Sunglasses – (similar) Sole Society Bryant

EarringsSole Society Dainty Front To Back Earring – Love. Lightweight. Pretty. I wear these so all the time.

Blush Shoes

I can never seem to get the actual belt thing to work for me, but tie-waist tops, yessss. The tie that’s made from fabric matching the rest of the top defines the waist but blends in and, unlike a separate belt, doesn’t make a short torso look even shorter. Anyhoo, I’ve finally figured it out. Hooray! Not sure why it took me this long…

Let me know if you find any good ones!

Cheers,

L

Great combination of that shirt with those jeans – I wouldn’t have thought to put those two together. And your daughter is adorable – that’s such a great age!
