Like Scotti, I think I threw up in my mouth a little when Shana announced the style challenge this time would be mom shorts. I feel like it’s very easy to look, well, mumsy when wearing khaki shorts – the polo shirt, helmet hair and fanny pack can’t be far behind. But! I was pleasantly surprised that we had some wiggle room when choosing a style. (I was dramatically picturing the actual tan, knee-length elastic waistband type.) There were some dressing room moments where I thought I was going to have to make up a ‘dog ate my computer’ story to get out of posting, but I finally found my favorite pair of shorts to date. They’re comfortable, easy to wear and versatile – I paired them with a peasant top and fun sandals for the shoot, but they’re just as good with a cotton tank and cute sneakers when I’m on kid duty. Sneak peek of my favorite spring jacket in history after the sun went down, too!
Shorts – Sanctuary Habitat Shorts – These were the last ones I tried on after a handful of mom shorts that were way too mom-ish. They’re comfortable and fit like a dream, no sagging and bagging. As a person who lacks any appreciable hips or ‘junk in the trunk’, the extra details like cargo pockets, seaming and buttons on the leg balance out the lower half. Fits true to size, I took a size down from what I normally do in jeans. They’re a bit stretchy and not confining at all.
Top – Gibson Ruffled Handkerchief Hem Top (similar) – I love this drapey blush top paired with olive green or gray to add some femme style, especially with cargo-type shorts like these.
Sandals – Steve Madden Sweetyy Flat Sandal – Interesting shoes are my go-to. It took me a while to figure out the ankle wrap with tassels but once they were on, I didn’t even notice I was wearing shoes! We walked a lot while taking these pics and even though it was the first time I wore them, they were incredibly comfortable. Limited sizes left but new ones popping up all day, keep checking! I also rounded up similar tassel sandal styles in a boutique below.
Moto Jacket – Marrakech Faravel Moto Jacket – Just a sneak peek at my latest obsession! If you’ve checked out my instagram lately, you’ve seen her go from a 7 hour flight straight to touring Paris & London without a wrinkle in sight. (Wish I could say the same about my under-eye baggage). It’s the perfect weight for cool spring days (and nights) and I can’t say enough good things about it. Look for it in an upcoming European trip packing post!
