Silky Cami Dreaming: This Inexpensive One Is Perfect For Moms

I’m all for silk camisoles. I might even have a stash of silks in my favorite colors…just waiting for this busy mama to make some time for her. Some day! Some day when “mom, watch me!!” and a baby crying to be fed doesn’t happen every two minutes.  So for now I’ll leave my silk camisoles for the rare date night, and instead, look for an inexpensive option (ASOS has decent tops that work for nursing), so I won’t be terrified of milk-wetting 5 minutes after putting it on…or ruining when some sticky handed toddler gives me a hug.

And you bet, I found a favorite – at ASOS, of course. One that looks good and is well-finished. This one is double layered which guarantees a nice and finished neckline, in addition to no see-through issues. The fabric drapes well and what I liked the most is that it comes in regular, tall and fuller-bust fits.

Another reason an inexpensive cami is the way to go? Testing out a new color. I’ve never been a pastel person (except for light blue and mint) – and I’ve often joked that if I had a girl I would dress her only in black, blue and gray. But recently, with the surge of the millennial pink, I started falling in love with not only pink, but pastels in general – like this lilac. And now I’m wearing blush and lilac together – I am a convert and believe me that is a lot to say. nursing friendly outfit idea

I actually got milk-wet 5 minutes after getting dressed! SO thankful it wasn’t silk. Phew!

Wearing

Top – Asos Double layer Camisole (size US 4, usually wear XS) my color is sold out but there’s more colors to choose from. Afraid your boobs won’t fit? Try fuller bust option

Bralette – Victoria Secret (mine is the old version)

Jeans – Hudson Ciara white jeans (wearing size 25) Hudson has become my favorite brand for high-waisted jeans and it all started because I got this pair. They are stretchy, comfortable and are NOT see-through. I’m petite so I cut them and left the raw hem. They come in blue denim too (on sale)

Shoes – Reebok Original sneakers They are leather (not suede) so they are easy to clean. I literally have no idea why there’s only half sizes available. I got a 5.5 and I’m usually between that and 6. The 5.5 fits well with thin socks and I’m waiting for the leather to stretch a bit. Or get them in silver!

Bag – Madewell painted stripe tote Obsessed with the color of this tote and the touch it gives to my looks.

About Author

After my oldest was born, I found myself wearing my old tank tops and yoga pants everyday. I had a ton of unworn clothes in the back of my closet and had a little voice in my head saying “why look nice if you’re going to be home nursing a baby around the clock?” Now, after change of mindset, I apply my fashion design studies to my everyday craziness and document the things I try here on The Mom Edit and my own blog The Unbosom.
If you can’t find me in the bathroom hiding from my kids, I’ll be on Facebook or Instagram @theunbosom begging for bedtime!
