Three Foolproof Ways to Rock Red Sneakers

It’s true most of my closet is blue, black and gray, but the red this fall is actually becoming my new jam…especially when we’re talking about red sneakers. You may have seen me trying to choose a pair on my Instagram (@elletrain). I ultimately went with the slightly brighter red Reeboks (super comfy.)

Outfit 1: All Black, Moto Details

That red can be a little tricky though (as mentioned in *my last post* LINK TO RED OUTFIT POST) but you kinda can’t go wrong pairing it with all black. And a red lip, of course. Check it.

I love the pop of color the red sneakers give the all black (that I love). They would also be amazing with…you guessed it…gray (think gray jeans or gray tee or gray sweater.)

You may be wondering about the goat face in the mural above…I have no idea. #portlandia But finding a new spot where Sienna can run back and forth and get some wiggles out is a win in my book. And it’s one of the many amazing murals in our lovely city…and yes, it’s in a fast food parking lot, but whatevs.

Also, I do like what I’m wearing here, but I do realize I can’t compete with S and her floral Docs, even with bright red sneakers. I’m ok with that.

JeansMadewell 9″ High Rise Skinny in Black Sea – Favorite jeans of all time. You’ve seen them before. TTS. Wearing a 27.

BagRebecca Minkoff Julian Backpack – You may be tired of hearing about our backpacks but I love them… and this one with the pebbled leather will last forever. It’s really durable. I carried it all last fall/winter and it looks brand new. These are the only designer bags I own and to me they’re very much worth it.

LipstickMac Russian Red (mixed with a little of my favorite brown/red ) I’m a serial lipstick color mixer and am seriously non-committal when it comes to sticking with one color. I love these two mixed though unless I’m really bold and decide I can rock the red on it’s own.

Outfit 2: Stripes & Black Jeans

On a whim the other day I threw on my red sneakers with a striped tee and I was pleasantly surprised that they worked…because as much as I adore black and gray, I also adore stripes. You may have seen this combo over on our Instagram (@themomedit)

I definitely don’t want a one-trick-pony pair of shoes hanging out in my closet, so I was glad to see these would compliment some of my favorite t-shirts. I went with a black jean again because I think it grounds the other colors and keeps the outfit from looking too busy color-wise. Navy stripes and red can veer costume-y sometimes and I didn’t want that. But I like them with the black.

Outfit 3: Trench Coat

There’s no denying red and camel go so well together. The best example of a gorgeous camel color I had was this trench coat. There’s just something about a trench coat with sneakers that I will always adore, too. It’s that preppy meets sporty classic combo that I just love. I loved it with the white tee and Scotti loved the black tee so I thought I’d show you both for comparison.

  1. Not quite red, but I have a pair of coral coloured Adidas Superstar sneakers and I have been blown away by how much they go with – not just neutrals but bright colour, patterns and prints. Love them, and love the idea of getting some red ones too!

I have this pair (https://instagram.com/p/BKcYEmFjH_4/) of red New Balance that I wear with EVERYTHING. Army green pants and navy tee…red sneaks. Black leggings and black hoodie…red sneaks. Camo pants and white top…red sneaks. They’re pretty much the most versatile shoe I own! I am all the heart eyes for the jeans, white tee and trench coat combo, though! Love it! I’m pretty sure I now know exactly what I’m wearing on Friday!
