A Fresh Pairing: Oversized Blazer + Faux Leather Leggings

Is there anything easier than throwing on a tee or sweater over a pair of leggings and calling it a day? That’s an all time favorite “mom look”. What if I tell you, you can still wear that but look amazingly fashionable with just a few additions and tweaks?

I’ve been really lazy (tired) lately and have been wearing joggers and leggings way more than usual.  But then this is what happens: my inner fashion blogger starts whispering: “Shouldn’t you be looking better than that? You’re supposed to be stylish all the time!!” Maybe yes, maybe not. Maybe I’m an imperfect human being and it’s ok to not look good all the time. So, while I’m totally ok with a few lazy days, I know I feel my best when I put a tiny bit of effort in how I look. That’s when I decided to think of ways to spice those leggings up.

Oversized blazers are a big trend this fall and I think is going to be one that stays for a while. They are totally great for a fancy look or the office but I really wanted to see them styled for an easy and comfortable look. That’s when my brain put leggings and oversized blazers together and I started working around that to create a look I would wear.

It includes faux leather leggings, belting the blazer to cinch the waist (I’m petite) and dark colored high-top sneakers to make the legs longer if the blazer is more of a light color. If it were a dark colored blazer I wouldn’t mind a lighter color in the shoes. I literally was at home all day doing laundry in my leggings and pullover and the felt like a total different person when I added those things and went out for these pictures.

WEARING

Jacket – A New Day Plaid Boyfriend Blazer (wearing size 2) It’s a nice blazer. Well finished and has a nice design. Wish it came in smaller sizes. Even though is supposed to be oversized it felt big on my petite frame.

Belt – Lovers and Friends Dalton Belt – Really nice and sturdy belt. Love that the hardware is covered in leather. I would regularly wear it with black jeans and sweater and a top coat.

Top – Rag And Bone (sold out) but this one would look really cute with the faux leather leggings when not wearing the blazer on top.

Leggings – Spanx Faux Leather Leggings (wearing XS) – Or try the latest Spanx faux leather leggings with a moto design. Finally decided to try these and YES they are worth the money. I’ve been loving spanx underwear for my soft stomach situation and wanted a pair of faux leather leggings for the days I wanted to wear leggings but have a little edge too. They fit amazing and look really good.

Shoes – Converse high tops  (very similar, gorgeous color)

Bag – Chelsea 28 Saddle bag – On sale. Classic minimalistic bag that looks more expensive than it is.

After my oldest was born, I found myself wearing my old tank tops and yoga pants everyday. I had a ton of unworn clothes in the back of my closet and had a little voice in my head saying "why look nice if you're going to be home nursing a baby around the clock?" Now, after change of mindset, I apply my fashion design studies to my everyday craziness and document the things I try here on The Mom Edit and my own blog The Unbosom.  If you can't find me in the bathroom hiding from my kids, I'll be on Facebook or Instagram @theunbosom begging for bedtime!

  1. I love this post! Some days we just need leggings😀And I love how you changed the look from “yoga” to sophisticated.

    • They are Converse, however I’ve had them for quite some time. I linked a pair of Converse in same color but in leather instead of suede…and in the other options at the end of the post there’s another pair in suede but grey. Will keep looking to see if I can find another option.
