(Non Maternity) Dresses for Pregnancy

I have had very little success with maternity dresses.  They don’t tend to fit me until the very end of pregnancy.  Up until then they resemble tents . . . leaving all kinds of months in between where I’m wondering what the heck to wear.  The best solution has actually just been to wear regular dresses that fit over the bump or stretch to accommodate it.  Here are 5 of my current favorites:

A-Line

This dress is awesome.  I’ve long been a fan of Free People’s Long Beach tank, and this is the dress version of that tank.  I love the length and the drape of the fabric – I’ve been wearing over jeans when it’s cold and will probably have to add shorts underneath when I’m approaching my due date (depending on how big this belly gets).  For now it’s perfect as is.

Wearing:

Free People Dress (size small, available in a ton of colors ), Jeffrey Campbell Sandals (size 8 . . . I went up 1/2 size from usual sandal size . . .more sizes here)

Fit & Flare

Wearing:

Leith Ruffle Midi Dress (size small) sold out at the moment but I’m counting on a restock! This one from ASOS is very similar and at a similar price point Jeffrey Campbell Sandals (more sizes here)

Ruched

This is the perfect layering dress.  I was wearing it with leggings and an oversized cardigan, but now that it’s starting to get warmer I can wear it as-is or with a denim jacket or hoodie.  This is like a long shirt that’s super soft and comfy (it’s thinner material so it’s not as hot as some other long-sleeved dresses) and could be worn well into fall.

Wearing:

Love, Fire Ruched Knit Dress (wearing size medium, also in dark burgundy), Jeffrey Campbell Sandals (more sizes here)

Body-Con

I bought this one in gray and black because it was so comfy and easy to dress up or down.  Add some statement earrings or necklaces, a denim jacket or knit cardigan, flat sandals or heels, etc.  The perfect base to start with.

Wearing:

Leith Ruched Body-Con Tank Dress (available in a ton of colors, wearing size medium for more room in the hips/booty/belly), Jeffrey Campbell Sandals (more sizes here)

Lace-Up

Wearing:

Billabong Let Loose Swing Dress (Wearing size small . . . lots of room for my belly in this one.  Also in a pretty peachy-pink color.), Jeffrey Campbell Sandals (more sizes here)

  1. I’m tracking a pregnancy right along with Scotti’s and I so appreciate these posts! I’d also love to see one about spring jackets, maybe specifically about denim jackets. My Gap denim jacket from 10+ years ago finally fell apart and I need an update. would love to hear your suggestions!
