Orange Crush: 2017 Spring Color Trend

Citrus fruits, traffic cones, pumpkin patches, Donald Trump’s skin tone –  just a few of the things that come to mind when I think about orange. “Fashion’s IT Color” or “Season’s Hottest Trend,” on the other hand are phrases I’m pretty sure no one has used since the ’70s in reference to orange, well until now.

Yup, orange is back and baby.. it’s come a long way since Woodstock.

Varying hues of orange dominated the runway during NYFW this year. From electric neon oranges to soft creamsicle pastels, from fiery sunset pallet of red oranges to warm cinnamon earth tone neutrals, and every shade of orange in between. Orange has never looked so appealing and wearable.

Still not sold?

I feel ya. I was the biggest orange non-believer of them all until a chance encounter with a rust cami in an Anthro fitting room turned my least favorite color into a complete wardrobe staple.

On the Hunt for Light Wash Denim

This month’s light wash denim challenge was a struggle for me but not for the reasons you might think…

You know that saying: you don’t miss it until it’s gone? It definitely applies when you break all the important bones of your dominant arm in a car accident. Besides the shock and pain, it’s the little things (which turns out to be pretty much everything) you miss the most like: texting, tying shoe laces, putting a bra on, washing your hair, getting pants on without asking help.  And you can forget about wearing jeans with  “button up flys,” Turns out they were made by the devil himself specifically to taunt us one-handers.

So naturally, my jeans have a button up fly.

My Tried and True Winter Coat and Boots

Although nothing like Winter in the U.P. where Scotti lives, usually by January in West Michigan you can expect freezing temperatures and a solid layer of snow that won’t melt until Spring. But this past week it was so unseasonably warm almost all of the snow melted.

Not that I’m complaining, but it gets hot fast when you have all of your warmest gear on and it’s 60 degrees outside.

With the exception of our random weekend of warm weather…this marks my third Michigan winter and I think I’m finally figuring out how to dress for serious cold and snow. As long as you have a very warm coat and snow-proof boots, it’s really not so bad. I swear.  Read on for my go-to winter weather picks.

AllSaints All Day Long: How I Style Mine

I just had a feeling you guys would like AllSaints just as much as I do. They do timeless wardrobe essentials with a modern twist. Plus, the quality and tailoring of their clothing is so SO good. I fell in love with the brand when they opened their first store in Chicago. At the time, I was still in college and had a difficult time parting with $10, so, the thought of purchasing something from them, even from the sales rack was laughable. Instead I walked around the store touching everything and whispering “someday my pretty, someday.”

Bummed you missed the sale? Never fret! Their sale is STILL going on. Select items are up to 50% off plus an additional 20% off of sale items at checkout using the code January.

Jess’ After Christmas Sales Edit

Wanna know what’s a terrible idea? Going OUT to do your after Christmas sale shopping.

I mean, isn’t this the whole reason Al Gore invented the internet? So we didn’t have to put pants on or make eye contact with other humans whilst we shop?

An even worse idea is going out shopping on one of the busiest days of the year, on one of the most crowded locations in the country, Chicago’s Magnificent Mile.

So naturally, that’s exactly what I decided to do during our quick trip to my beloved home city of Chicago. I blame this momentary lapse of judgement on Sofitel hotel’s perfect location and its proximity to everything good. Thankfully, I came to my senses REAL quick though, I didn’t make it through the second set of doors to HM before tuning around and running for my life.

But that’s the reason I’m here. so you can learn from my mistakes. Now, take those pants back off, refill your mug and simply scroll.

PJ Loungewear Week: Warm Slippers + Cozy Cardis + Soft Slips

The holiday season has been extra exciting for us this year because we’re celebrating in our new house! We’ve been so busy with the seemingly unending tasks that come with settling in to a new home, that we haven’t had time to really decorate for the holidays.

It’s easy to tell which one’s our house at night though! We’re the completely dark home in between the two houses with all the festive Christmas lights! No biggie, we were doomed to be the designated neighborhood slacker couple from the get-go.

Inside though, it’s surprisingly cozy and Christmas-y despite our minimal decorating efforts, thanks to the snow that started falling over a week ago and hasn’t stopped since. I’m not even that mad about all of the snow because it convinced me it was time to buy the Minnetonka slipper booties I’ve wanted all year and I don’t know how I lived before having a pair of slippers like these, they became essential to my wardrobe and well-being overnight.

By the way, this is toootally what I look like when I wake up in the morning, minus the three layers of makeup and and any hint of life behind my eyes.

Holiday Gift Guide for the Golf and Tech Guy

Okay, let’s play a quick game of The Mom Edit connect the dots: Jonathan, my other half, is the younger bro of Mike, Shana’s hubby. And as Shana can attest, Jonathan is probably the most difficult person in the family to shop for. Where I might say he’s “picky shopper”…he says he’s an “educated shopper.”

Jonathan agonizes and researches every. single. purchase. he makes, down to cutting boards and trash cans. Since there’s no way I can afford the only thing he truly wants this year for Christmas: a $10,000 golf simulator (shock, gasp, faint), I got him to sit down with me and pick out a few slightly more humble (but still kick-ass) gift options.

The theme? Golf and tech.

When I first asked him to help me create a gift guide that other guys might appreciate as well he said, “I’m not sure other guys would want the same stuff as I do,” to which Shana and I replied, “uhhh, I think that’s what most guys want for Christmas,” so without further ado, here is a Jonathan approved Holiday gift guide…

A Holiday Gift Guide for the Yoga Goddess

Roughly four years ago, I was knee deep in the darkest period of my life – until I discovered yoga. This lifestyle had its own indescribable way of reaching out and saving me. You might hesitate to take someone so seriously who, admittedly, has once said they ‘literally almost died’ upon seeing a cute sweater. But now, in hindsight, I can confidently say yoga pulled me out of a darkness. The practice guided me into the light and I’ve never looked back. I could go on and on about loving yoga (and if anyone wants to take me up on that, please do) but in the meantime, let’s talk yoga gifts.

AllSaints: 30% Off Everything

Have you guys heard of AllSaints brand? They’re one of my absolute favorites, if I could live in a brand, it would be this one. They’re a bit on the pricey side but the quality is so insanely lux,  and their modern/minimalistic styles are some of the best.  I go to them when I need a wardrobe essential like a knit sweater, a collared button down, or a biker jacket that are interesting…yet will last forever.  OR…when they have a sale.

Amazon: 20% Off Tops, Pants and Jewelry

“Make a little Amazon wishlist,” they said. “It’ll be quick and easy,” they said. Three hours later, my Black Friday wish list was +100 items, and growing! I managed to pare it down a bit and went with three categories that I thought had the MOST good stuff: Tops, Pants and Fashion Jewelry! AND, cause I love ya’ll as much as I love turkey stuffing (so much) each of the three categories were carefully curated so that you can wear any top with any of the pants and any piece of jewelry (with a few exceptions I’m sure).
