I started wearing maternity tops loooong before I was pregnant (or even married, for that matter). Because of my small shoulders/bigger butt issue like many of my pear-shaped ladies, finding longer tops was always an issue. They were either too tight in the hips and/or too loose up top. And then I discovered maternity tops. I was perusing Target one day with no specific list in mind (as we all do, amiright??) looking at clothes that I thought were cute. It wasn’t until I tried on the “tunic top” I had put in my cart that I realized it was actually maternity. But . . . I mean . . . it was cut longer, a little more generously and looked perfect over leggings. Who needed to know?

I am literally always on the hunt for jeans for girls with big butts and smaller waists (#curvygirlproblems). I can never find jeans that fit without squeezing my butt flat or gaping at the waist so when I heard about Good American, Khloe Kardashian’s new(ish) line of denim, I had high hopes . . . and I wasn’t disappointed.
My mom wears vests alll the time . . . I see a vest, I think, “Oh Mom would love this!” I never really even considered wearing them myself because they remind me so much of her (not in a bad way, Mom!). But then one day we were at her house and it was bit too warm for the huge puffy coat I had left the house in, so I borrowed her J. Crew vest. I actually kinda loved it! They’re perfect for that in-between weather (obviously), but I especially like those in fashionable patterns and fun colors. It’s another way to style a black turtleneck (something I’ve been doing a lot of lately, apparently). Add some cool-looking waterproof booties (yes, they exist!) and you have a perfect outfit to take you into spring. I’ve rounded up some of my favorites below.
I’m such a sucker for moto jackets . . .give me all the colors, all the cuts, all the unique embellishments of zippers and collars. Love. They’re the perfect finishing touch to throw on over a spring dress or destroyed denim when the weather gets a bit warmer. For now? They’re upping my turtleneck game. LOL yes . . . I said turtleneck game. Because winter. It’s cold. And I need a way to refresh the simple jeans and turtleneck look that I’ll be rocking for weeks to come.
This is the perfect go-to look for a date night outfit that won’t leave you freezing and is super easy to throw together.
As many of you know, Shana went to Barcelona this summer and had an absolute blast. Although she couldn’t take us with her (wahhh!) she bought me the PERFECT Christmas present while she was there: the coolest ring in the history of rings and an amazing pair of ear cuffs. I’ve been loving their edgy, structural detail – both kid-friendly and cool. Besides, modern silver jewelry + a pretty gray sweater is one of the easiest outfit combos (and can be worn day or night).
One of my favorite things about the Topshop Parka I bought this winter is its versatility . . . as in, that HUGE faux fur hood that I love wearing in the cold wind and snow detaches. Since the jacket itself isn’t a huge puffy down-filled coat this means that I can wear it well into the coming months when the snow is gone. Which brings me to my recent discovery . . . winter sneakers.
I had NO idea they were a thing, really, until I came across these Converse shoes that are literally called “Winter Knit High Top.” Because I live in crazy snow country, it never occurred to me that such a thing existed. And even though I live in Winterville, USA, (or because I live here?) I’m always cold well into March, April . . . and even May sometimes. By then I’m over boots, but my feet get cold so easily. Solution? Winter sneakers. They might be faux fur-lined or waterproof or a sneaker-boot-hybrid and they’re warm, comfortable and seriously cute.
Zack recently broke his leg . . . it was right around the time I got pink eye. (In both eyes. Apparently you’re supposed to treat both eyes . . . learned that the hard way.) Since he recently started his own drywall business, the timing wasn’t exactly ideal. We’ve been trying to make lemonade out of lemons, though . . . and that includes taking advantage of the extra time together, family members willing to babysit and daytime dates. The time has loooong passed when we go out late at night and if it’s 9pm I want to be on my couch thinking of bed. Daytime dates are SO much better. Even if it’s just bowling. Which I hate and am horrible at. Beers help.
Guys, I found the perfect coat. This huge fluffy awesome faux fur hood lining can be removed for a much less dramatic look (for weather that’s warmer than when we took these pictures). For now, I love the oversized hood and warmth of the faux fur…but when it gets warmer I’ll be happy that I have another option that doesn’t involve puffer coats and faux fur.
When you live where I live, you get excited about these things.
Stay tuned for how I style this coat with “winter sneakers,” (yes, that’s a thing) but until then I’m loving it with these Ugg boots (warm, comfy and on sale, which Uggs almost never are) for an effortless cozy winter combo.
