AllSaints All Day Long: How I Style Mine

I just had a feeling you guys would like AllSaints just as much as I do. They do timeless wardrobe essentials with a modern twist. Plus, the quality and tailoring of their clothing is so SO good. I fell in love with the brand when they opened their first store in Chicago. At the time, I was still in college and had a difficult time parting with $10, so, the thought of purchasing something from them, even from the sales rack was laughable. Instead I walked around the store touching everything and whispering “someday my pretty, someday.”

Bummed you missed the sale? Never fret! Their sale is STILL going on. Select items are up to 50% off plus an additional 20% off of sale items at checkout using the code January.

Amanda’s Fall Wardrobe Edit (It’s All About the SHOES)

loeffler-randall-high-tops

Hi ladies! So I got a little excited about back to school shopping this year…for myself. Shopping for my kindergarten girl can be tricky since we have very different um, aesthetics? Her love of rainbow and animal print rivals mine for black and stripes. Living with her creative fashion choices must be rubbing off on me though, especially in the shoe department. While I’m not going to be pairing tutus and rain boots anytime soon these leopard high tops and silver booties are going to be on replay all fall. Want to see how I’m mixing interesting shoes with classic cooler weather pieces?

Midi Skirts: A Non Shorts Summer Style Option

midi skirt summer outfit 3

I love summer (like, a lot), and even more so since I moved to Michigan and experienced the pure bliss that is a Michigan summer.   But..dressing for summer?

Yeah,  not so much.

There’s nothing like trying to get dressed on a hot summer day to to stir up all those body insecurities I spent the last nine months convincing myself I didn’t have.  It serves as a good reminder of why Fall is my favorite season-  jeans and oversized sweaters aren’t just favorite outfit options- they are precious protective layers!  I’ve joked before about my “cottage cheese” thighs, but it’s a lot harder to find the humor (ha, ha….ha?) when I’m trying on shorts and bikinis for the first time of the summer.  And, (TMI?) I’m a big time “sweat”er and sweat + shorts = an uncomfortable, irritable Jess.

So over the years I’ve figured out a few ways to adapt my summer wardrobe to soothe my summer style stresses: skirts and dresses (ha! that rhymed). Midi skirts are the length I feel most confident in. My favorites are midi skirts with side splits, because they cover enough skin while allowing me to stay cool (or at least less sweaty). In July and August I usually throw on a basic tank or lace cami, a midi skirt and my Birkenstocks and I’m good to go for the whole day. Here’s how I styled a few of my favorite midis….

How To Wear White Right Now

white denim santin cami soft neutral outfit

Whites are trending big this season and neutrals have come so far from plain old tan. Soft, pastel hues like blush, dusty blue and mint have made their debut and become the new essentials to a well-rounded wardrobe. Neutrals have definitely garnered a bad rap over the years – deemed dull and boring, or overlooked in favor of more colorful trends. But when combined, neutrals can create an effortlessly chic and timeless look that’s surprisingly simple to pull off.

So if you’re looking for a refreshing spring style alternative….

AND

….you consider yourself a rebel, someone who prefers to live life on the edge, push limits, break rules and wear white any.day.of.the.year you please…

Five Ways To Wear White Sneakers This Spring

samba sneakers white denim outfit

The white sneaker trend has been around for several years, and while most shoe trends would have fizzled out by now, stark white sneaks aren’t going anywhere soon.

I’ll admit it took me awhile to warm up to the trend, mainly because I am one of the messiest people on the planet. I seriously cannot keep anything clean- I usually need to change completely before I walk out the door, and I can’t help but feel that purchasing a pair of perfectly white and shiny sneakers is like purposefully tempting fate.

But, the more I saw them styled, the more I wanted them. Plus, there are sooo many cool white sneakers out right now that anyone can find their perfect pair.

I ended up with the Adidas Classic Samba, which I’ve wanted so badly since I was 10 years old and owned the Payless version that has like 6 stripes instead of three. These worked best for me because 1. They aren’t completely all white and 2. They have an off white suede toe cap that keeps them from scuffing as much.   Lastly they are super comfortable, as they are actually made for indoor soccer players.

Here are five ways I styled mine.

Gap Dressing Room Selfies!

gap-dressing-room-selfies

So Laura and Jess walk into the Gap……

Jess’s Take

A couple of things I learned from my first dressing room selfie experience yesterday at the Gap:

1. Dressing room selfies are no joke.

2. Retail associates, especially those assigned to the dressing room area, are hardworking, patient, Saint like individuals.

It’s been a while since I’ve actually set foot inside a Gap store as I’ve started doing more and more of my shopping (and returning) online. And this isn’t meant to be a diss, but if I am at the mall, or happen to be passing a Gap, I usually end up bypassing it all together. Because after shopping at the Gap for 20+ years I feel like I already know what’s on the racks without looking inside.

But my day-trip to Gap helped to reminded me that what Gap does, it does it well, and affordably. I’ve mentioned before that I’m trying to focus on buying only wardrobe essentials: items that are timeless, high quality and verstaile. And on a budget like mine, Gap and it’s sister companies Banana Republic, Old Navy and Athletica, are great places to look.

So, here are four complete looks I put together yesterday.

Spring Layers: Four Easy Outfits From Pinterest To Copy Right Now

layering

Early spring is both exciting and disappointing, right? Flowers are blooming and the sun may be shining a bit, but many mornings are still quite chilly and you remember summer is still not all that close. #thanksPhil

The good thing is that it’s the perfect time to try out new layer combinations in your outfits…to combat those chilly mornings but to be prepared for the warmer afternoons. I’ve always been a fan of layering…you know it was polo shirts and socks in the ’80’s, plaid flannel in the 90’s, tanks over fitted tees in the 2000’s, and now button downs under sweatshirts, of course. Layering is the best trick to make outfits more interesting. I’ve gathered up a few of my favorite layered looks from Pinterest and am breaking them down so we can figure out how to emulate them together.

Outfit 1: Trench + sweatshirt + white jeans

The Break-down

White jeans and trench coats are a classic combination.  Love how she modernized this pairing with a sweatshirt and denim shirt.  For spring, keep colors soft, as she did here. The shirt looks cool tied, but if you actually needed the extra layer, it would look just as good worn under the sweatshirt, tails peeking out.

Keep the look cohesive with neutral sandals, bag and sunglasses.  Extra points for major earrings.

An End of Winter #MyEverydayEdit

The end of February and beginning of March is my least favorite time of the year. As my fellow Midwestern residents can attest, these weeks are particularly bleak and uninspiring. It’s still very much winter, the snow shows little sign of letting up, and there are no more fun holidays to look forward to.  The last thing I want to do is spend any more money on winter gear when Spring is so close, nor do I look forward to putting on the winter boots and coat I so excitedly purchased and wore only a few months ago.

So, I look to your #myeverydayedit Instagram posts to be inspired by fresh takes on styling. Here are the outfits I managed to pull together these last few weeks and also a collection of a just a few of your outfits that I found especially inspiring!

P.s. If you are new around here, #myeverydayedit is an Instagram tag we use at The Mom Edit to share our every day style. I promise, we are all nice gals and you should definitely consider joining in on the fun. (no pressure or anything)  You can find us at: @ShanaChristine@Scottiliz, @Camilledipoala, @Elletrain and @jessbobess.

So without further ado….
