I’ve got cozy on the brain because this weekend we’re going to visit the in-laws in Minneapolis for an early Christmas. The kids think we’re going to the North Pole, but joke’s on us because it’s actually warmer in the arctic circle than the midwest right now! When we get back and thaw out, I’ll be wearing this fun sweatshirt and festive sweater leggings on repeat. Especially on Christmas morning and, if we’re being honest, the rest of the day since I’m not leaving the house! We make the rounds on Christmas Eve, then get to stay warm and cozy all day on the 25th – the benefit of having the only grandkids is that my parents come here for present opening and lots of food that seems to merge into one day long meal. This is a great outfit combo for staying in, but if you’ll be staying over with family or friends during the holidays, it’s guest-appropriate, too!

Hi ladies! So I got a little excited about back to school shopping this year…for myself. Shopping for my kindergarten girl can be tricky since we have very different um, aesthetics? Her love of rainbow and animal print rivals mine for black and stripes. Living with her creative fashion choices must be rubbing off on me though, especially in the shoe department. While I’m not going to be pairing tutus and rain boots anytime soon these leopard high tops and silver booties are going to be on replay all fall. Want to see how I’m mixing interesting shoes with classic cooler weather pieces?
Hey ladies – I made a naptime escape for my local Nordstrom today to try on some athleisure picks and workwear options from the sale! What did I find? Lots of killer comfy leggings, cool jackets (including this amazing Zella moto puffer!), cashmere sweaters and leather jackets to swap out for blazers this fall.
I have an old pair of workout leggings. I wore them the last time I visited Shana. We were working out together in a bright room with lots of windows and mirrors when I happened to catch a glimpse of my derriere in the mirror. “Um,” I said, slowly. “I think these might be see-thru.” “Yup, they are.” Shana said, without hesitation. Fabulous. Nothing like finding out a pair of workout pants you’ve been wearing to the gym, running outside, to YOGA class (dear God) are, in fact, see-thru.
I understand the plight of trying to find the perfect workout pieces. So when readers asked us to review Fabletics, I jumped at the chance. I was looking through the outfits (you can order by outfit or individual pieces) and these capris with the side tie caught my eye. I also focused on tops that weren’t super skin tight – one of the things I hate about athletic gear is that lots of them seem to be made for people who are already in shape. Those of us who are post partum, just starting to workout, who want to lose weight (or just lift and or tighten) – we really don’t want skin tight shirts when we embark on our workout adventures, amiright??
Hello out there! Easing into your New Year’s workouts? I’m trying to be active but not beat myself up if I don’t get around to the perfect workout everyday. Here’s to more self-compassion in 2016!
Sooo….any other recovering perfectionists out there? I have to remember my main form of exercise right now is chasing around a toddler and that probably burns a decent number of calories! In addition to toddler-wrangling, I’ve also really been enjoying Yoga With Adriene’s 30 Day Bootcamp. Granted, I’m only on Day 5 and *should* be on Day 20…but…
Athleta. I did try on lots of great workout wear at Athleta (and got a parking ticket while doing so! Doh). It was worth it because they surprised me with some seriously good finds. If you haven’t shopped or perused Athleta before, they offer a mix of athletic wear and everyday clothing with a sporty-vibe.
One thing to note: I found their overall sizing really generous. I had to size down at least one size for pretty much everything I tried on. The sales associate let me know this as I was shopping, so that was really helpful. For example, I usually hover between and Small and Medium in general, but was a solid Small here, sometimes an XS. I will put the size at the end of each description, just for reference. Shout out to the helpful ladies at Athleta in the Pearl! Thank you so much for assisting me!
By the way, this post is not sponsored. It’s just me telling you what I think about the fit and style of their clothing. Here we go:
I found some great pieces for working out. I really loved their leggings. I tried both high rise and mid-rise, long and capri and they all felt very solid in construction and were great at holding in the mama tummy. They offer regular, petite and long lengths, too. I only tried the regulars, but think I might check out petite length for the full length leggings. I would definitely give their pants a try, among a few other pieces below…
Chi Top – Liked this for a basic, racerback workout top. The gray is nice with the bright pants. Size S
Spotlight Half Zip – This is one of the few tops I really liked. I’m wearing a small in this and it’s not quite as fitted as the model on the website’s is. If you really like fitted for running, you might size down even more. Size S
High Rise Quest Chaturanga Capri – I really really love this blue. Their capri pants also hit at a nice spot on my legs, I think. This is the high rise and it was a little too high rise for me, but this color is so good I would go with it! I also tried on the regular Chaturanga Capri and loved that rise better on me. Size XS
Ah…New Year, new goals of trying to get butt off of couch and work out. I try to eat healthy most of the time and try to be generally active, but I’m not the most disciplined when it comes to exercise. I adore yoga…when I remember to do it. I love a quick, tough workout like 21 Day Fix or Bikini Body Mommy workouts, but one must actually remember to do said workouts on a regular basis and this is where I fail. Right now my daily(ish) workout is dancing around the house with Sienna and I’m ok with that. We have some really good dance parties (picture a mix of ballet to songs from “Frozen” with some booty shaking to Notorious B.I.G. – I know! So fun.)
I digress…GUYS. There are so many good activewear lines out right now that are making me want to workout more. Everyone has jumped on board…even Anthropologie! There are about a million options to choose from and these are just a handful of my very favorites. Seeing as it’s winter, I stuck with warm, longer pants for the most part and there are some fabulous choices.
Well, shoot. The workout & loungewear section of the Nordstrom Anniversary sale is….pretty epic, actually. I was hoping – for the sake of my finances – that it would be a little more ‘meh’ but Nordstrom is NOT playing fair.
I mean seriously.
I don’t NEED another Juicy-like tracksuit in my life, but thanks to Nordies, now I want one. Baaaad. As Pax would say, I WANT DAT!!
Ugh. It’s so fabulous it hurts my eyes.
But maybe you guys can resist better than I. Loungewear & workout gear happens to be a major weakness of mine. No matter how many pairs of sweatpants I own, there’s always room for one more! So cozy! So comfy! So cute! I will wear them all day! In terms of cost-per-wear, it always ends up as pennies!
PENNIES, PEOPLE, PENNIES. That’s almost like SAVING MONEY. #fashionmath
Let’s do this.
I’ve been stalking these seriously cool, mesh cut-out running tights for MONTHS. Not only are they the easiest way to upgrade your workout look, they’ll fit seamlessly into your weekend wardrobe (just add a drapey sweatshirt and boots or sneaks).
The only problem? Nobody can keep these babies in stock.
Right now (in the middle of summer when it’s too hot to wear, naturally), my three favorite versions have just been restocked.
Zella – these tights are part of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, and they sold out during presale. Nordstrom restocked them this morning. And at only $40, it’s hard to beat that price. The mesh panel goes all around to the back, a feature that I like. Zella live-in leggings, $41 (on sale)
Lululemon – I actually think these are the sexiest of the bunch, but the mesh panels don’t wrap around to the back. I wish they had wrapped a few around. In any case, SWOON. Lululemon High Times Pant, $98
Urban Outfitters – I’m starting to really like Urban’s new workout brand, Without Walls. These tights are cool (I wish they had a few more mesh cutouts) but are still strong contenders. Without walls knit leggings, $65
So. I bought these chambray joggers last year, during one of LOFT’s many clearance sales (I think I paid a grand total of $15). I’ve been wearing them like sweatpants (aka my favorite pants), but unlike sweatpants there’s no ambiguity – did she mean to wear those out?? – nor do you have to be all that cool or intentional with the rest of your outfit. They’re just like real pants….wait! They ARE real pants. But comfy and easy and–
Easy like Sunday mo-orn-ning
Which is precisely when I wear them. (As Raines would say, “MOM. DON’T SING.”)
…for when you don’t give a crap, but want to look like you do.
[Hey guys – S here. This topic is so near-and-dear to my heart – I mean seriously NOTHING makes me swoon like a good pair of sweatpants – that I’m hijacking Cam’s post for a sec with this ridiculous pic. Now back to Cam.]
Mamas, you want this post. You need this post. In fact, you’ve been hoping and longing for it…long before you even knew about TME. Why?
We all have thoooose days. Those days you roll out of bed feeling more tired than when you got in bed the night before and you find Not. One. Bit. of creativity with which to put together an outfit that reflects the super cool mom you really are. (I know you’re cool. It’s okay). I, personally, usually roll up to Mad’s school drop-off in a huge hoodie sweatshirt, the cleanest jeans I could find in the pile in our closet and UGGs. When I’ve tried a little harder, I’ll have mascara on (HOLLA!! like that will distract people from my hoodlum attire). The other moms are jealous of my swagger. Ha. Needless to say, it’s time to step it up. LET’S STEP IT UP, yo.
See? Simple. All you need is comfortable and stylish loungewear. It’s a win-win, I mean, really. This kind of outfit can be thrown on in the morning without much thought and worn all day. I’m all about it.
If you find that you are now in the market for some BOSS mom attire, keep scrolling down. I found many awesome options…
