Since this week the blog is like one big ‘introduction to the opposites’ sketch, this athleisure queen was tasked with finding my inner glam. Immediately I started trolling Scotti’s posts for inspiration since she’s the resident glamazon around here. (And it’s not just in blog posts. Fun story: the first time I met Scotti in person was at the hotel we were staying at for Shana’s surprise birthday last year. It seriously felt like a celebrity sighting, she is that put together even on weekend morning – gorgeous makeup, hair did, heels. Me, on the other hand? Pretty sure my outfit involved stretchy pants and sneakers, and maybe tinted lip balm if I was feeling extra fancy.) I alternated between panic and avoidance for a week or so, until Shana asked how it was going on our weekly call. I said, quite seriously, “How about glam sweatshirts?” Shana replied, even more seriously, “I think it’s time to make an appointment with a Nordstrom stylist”. Gulp. Here’s the good, the bad and the ugly of what happened when I did.

Motherhood is a balance between doing what’s good and doing what keeps everyone sane. Some days you’re right on time everywhere, everything falls in place, no one has a meltdown… and some days you’re just trying to make it until bedtime without completely losing it.
And while a pair of shoes isn’t going to do school pick-up for you or anything, a slip-on style might just save you a few seconds when you’re already running late (says #worldsokayestmom). Sole Society has some lovely, quality slip on flats that I checked out…while spoiling Sienna with Valentine’s Day donuts. And I have to say, I’m in love.
Finally. Y’all, I’ve struggled since the holidays to find a new outfit I love. It was probably all the snow days I’ve spent in leggings and Uggs, but um, ugh. The creativity was gone. But…I’m back, baby! I randomly threw this outfit together for a kid’s birthday party (in all fairness, he is a pretty stylish 5 year old) last weekend and I’m loving it. I wanted comfortable but cool and I’ve landed on a new favorite…striped tee, moto jacket, blanket scarf & flat black boots. Check it.
I just had a feeling you guys would like AllSaints just as much as I do. They do timeless wardrobe essentials with a modern twist. Plus, the quality and tailoring of their clothing is so SO good. I fell in love with the brand when they opened their first store in Chicago. At the time, I was still in college and had a difficult time parting with $10, so, the thought of purchasing something from them, even from the sales rack was laughable. Instead I walked around the store touching everything and whispering “someday my pretty, someday.”
Bummed you missed the sale? Never fret! Their sale is STILL going on. Select items are up to 50% off plus an additional 20% off of sale items at checkout using the code January.
My Christmas season looks a lot like…
Cocoa and cuddling on the couch with the hubs (the cocoa may or may not be spiked. idk).
Making cookies with the kids (or watching as they eat and simultaneously drop all of ingredients on the kitchen floor).
Grabbing a drink with the bestie, laughing until we realize we need to stop drinking, talking about how fast the year flew by (and how big our babies are getting ::sob::).
Blasting Christmas music in the minivan and dancing to it like a fool, while running around doing the normal mom things with the kids.
Bonfires with our neighbors/built-in-family in the back yard. <3
Online Christmas shopping. Amazon.com for ALL OF THE PRESENTS. Free two day shipping. I mean, come on!
A very little amount of sequins, glitter and champagne bottle poppin’.
Nah, really I wouldn’t change a thing (except to maybe go to ONE fabulous holiday party – haha).
So. My go-to holiday outfit is a pretty casual one, but one with festive elements thrown in…because CHRISTMAS.
I’ve been doing some running lately. I mean….I’m always doing a little bit of running, but I recently broke through my 2 mile barrier – the one I’ve been struggling to crush since chemo, three years ago. It started with a (slightly threatening) text from a dear friend: “Wear running shoes to drop-off today. DON’T ARGUE.”
So I did. And I was met by a small posse of friends. “We’re doing this,” they said. “SLOWLY.” And we did. I’m not clear on the exact number of miles, but I heard whispers about almost four.
God, I hope so. By the end, my legs were shaking and I was totally exhausted yet completely exhilarated in a way that only comes after a good, long, satisfying run. Motivation lately? HIGH. (Girlfriends are the best.)
So when Lululemon reached out, wanting to talk about layering for workouts in colder weather, I was all YES YES and OH HELLS YES. Lululemon, unlike many other workout brands I’ve tried, makes workout clothes that can be washed a zillion times without changing shape or getting worn out….AND….they never smell. I’m not a big sweater, yet am always disappointed to find that most technical clothing stinks after one workout. A smell that doesn’t always come out in the wash. Lululemon? No. Smell.
I also managed to find a workout uniform that I can use for running, yoga and pilates. The key was layers – without being super tight across my stomach.
Hey mamas of tiny ones…this post is yours. New mamas and all of us with still-soft tummies want a fall update, too. There are some lovely finds this season that are still kind to feeding babes and feeling fab postpartum.
Rounding up some of these finds made me a little nostalgic about those early days with Sienna. She was an adorable little bundle, with the roundest cheeks you ever did see! She started saying ‘hi’ at about 8 months old….and hasn’t stopped since.
Fall is officially here! And this fall means back to work for me. Now, working from home I do appreciate being able to do my design work in my PJ’s occasionally, but for the most part, (as I mentioned in this post early this year) I try to get dressed everyday. It helps me get in the right headspace for work. And, as a designer, nothing gets me inspired more than finding a new favorite color combo!
This fall, the palette I’m obsessed with is navy, black and camel. I put together some favorite items in these colors and paired them with a few great pieces courtesy of Sole Society to round out the look…Join me (and one gorgeous cup of tea).
Fall! Fall has arrived with a gray, drizzly bang here in the Pacific Northwest. It literally arrived the day I tried most of these pieces on. And, although it was a really abrupt entrance, it’s gotten me super excited for cool weather, pumpkin everything and, of course…jackets.
I’m not the only one – several readers have been asking us to do a roundup of soft blazers. Many of you are looking for something like the one S wore in Europe (see her pics here), but with a lower price tag. Knit jackets are mom gold: comfy yet structured. I started searching only for knit blazers, but expanded my search to include of-the-moment bomber jackets as well. Come along and see both the wins and the bombs…(pun intended).
