Gorgeous Tech Accessories & Office Supplies to Start the New Year Right

pretty-office-supplies

Scale of 1-10, how painful was back to work this week? I’m having major “holiday hangover”, missing having the hubs home during the day and trying to get the kids’ sleep schedule back on track after a week of relaxed rules and way too much sugar. I’m in need of some major motivation and organization – especially since my home “office” is a desk two feet from our bed, and our room happens to be the most disorganized and cluttered room in the house! (Although I heard hygge is the new KonMari, I don’t think it applies here…) 2016 kind of kicked our collective butts, as Shana alluded to – but we are strong, resilient ladies and it’s time to get back to business. Nothing centers me like having a functional, organized clean-ish workspace and I want the things I see and use everyday to “spark joy”. I found some gorgeous tech accessories and stylish office supplies to help start the year on the right foot.

2017: let’s do this thing.

Nursing-Friendly AND Post-Partum Friendly Fall Staples

fall_nursingfriendlyintro
Hey mamas of tiny ones…this post is yours. New mamas and all of us with still-soft tummies want a fall update, too. There are some lovely finds this season that are still kind to feeding babes and feeling fab postpartum.

Rounding up some of these finds made me a little nostalgic about those early days with Sienna. She was an adorable little bundle, with the roundest cheeks you ever did see! She started saying ‘hi’ at about 8 months old….and hasn’t stopped since.

Confession: I still have and wear a pair of my favorite maternity jeans. Nostalgia is a powerful force.

You’ll Never Look at Khaki Pants Or Black Trousers The Same Way

lace-strapless-top

Khaki pants and black trousers.  God, I know.  If there’s one way to kick off an article with a big WOMP WOMP…it’s to start talking about khaki pants and black trousers.

[yaaawn]

But seriously – I get emails from readers (to the tune of several times a year) asking specifically about plain black pants or khakis.  Most of the inquiries can be summarized thusly:

Hi S.  Do you actually own any plain [black pants/khakis] or do you just wear ripped jeans every day?

Uh, yeah.  Pretty much.  But there are times (school functions, the occasional blog meeting that isn’t virtual, Mike’s work functions etc etc) when I’d like to look a little more…..polished, without resorting to a dress.  So it’s time to fill that big, glaring hole in my closet with….

…khaki pants and black trousers.

Serendipitously, I found two pairs (both part of the #nsale, and NOT yet sold out), that would be perfect in an office environment (read: no saggy bums), yet cool enough to be dressed up or dressed down, making them work for work, play, AND date night.  Keep reading to see these two wonder pants, along with an explanation of what makes these two pairs so…wonderful.

banana-republic-photo-review

Hey guys, I’m back with a reader request for Banana Republic dressing room selfies! I focused on work wear but lots of these outfits can pull double-duty at spring parties, church, anytime you need to look a little polished. I also included some outfits that combine work wear + casual because versatility is key.

Just like the Loft dressing room selfies, Banana has a strong blazer game going on right now and some funky surprises as well. Even better? Most of it’s on sale!

Note: This is not a sponsored post, just my opinions on Banana Republic’s fit and style. Also, pretend that I’m smiling – I forgot. Again.

Five Fun Ways To Style A Chambray Shirt Now

I woke up one day and decided I finally had enough of dealing with the ever growing piles of cheap junk clothing I’ve accumulated from years of chronic impulse buying.

So, I made it one of my goals this year to work on becoming a more conscientious buyer; to be more thoughtful and deliberate with my clothing purchases. This is no easy task for me, I’ve always been more of an act now, suffer the consequences later kind of a person, but acknowledging that I have a problem is the first step to overcoming right?

Quality over quantity is my new motto. I am going to work really hard at simplifying and buying only the essentials: quality clothing items that are versatile, durable and timeless.

Which brings me to my new chambray denim blouse, the 1969 Chambray Western Shirt by Gap, $59.92. I never realized the true potential of this unassuming top. There are soooo many different ways to style it. Seriously, just go onto Pinterest and search ‘How to style a chambray top’ and there are literally hundreds of outfit ideas. Here are my five favorites – outfit combos that hit the right note of ease and modernity:

1. Lace Skirt & Knee High Boots

LOFT Dressing Room Selfies – Work Wear Edition

loft-review-selfies

A new contributor? Nope, it’s me, Amanda! (yay…?) Some of you have been asking for work wear ideas, so I braved the camera and tried on a bunch of new arrivals at Loft. Postpartum mamas headed back to work, this one’s for you, too! Most of the tops and jackets I’m wearing conceal mum tums with a flowy plus structured formula. Overall there were some really great pieces and a few misses – I’ll give you details on fit, cut, quality and my absolute favorite piece that makes you look taller and slimmer and instantly put together. Bonus – most of these are on sale for 40% off right now!

Note: It might not look like it, but I swear I was having fun! It was really ridiculously hard for me to figure out where to position the phone to capture the neckline area so I was concentrating on the shot, not mah face – if you can’t tell, I’m a virgin dressing room selfie snapper. Also, wee case of resting b face (b for business?)

Also – this post isn’t sponsored, it’s just me and my opinions of Loft’s work wear.

Office Edit: Three Clever Ways To Style a Navy Pencil Skirt With Black Tights

how-to-wear-a-navy-skirt-with-black-tights

In college, I wore a navy pencil skirt to all of my job interviews.  My parents had bought me a conservative navy suit from JCrew (“it’s the most professional color, honey”) and I remember feeling very grown up.  Plus, it was the late 90’s, I had a math degree, and the dot-com boom was in full swing.  Basically, if you could breathe, you got a job.

Me?  I’d been breathing my whole life.  #nailedit

This is all to say that most of us, at least those who have worked in an office environment, probably have a navy skirt lurking around somewhere.  Navy skirts (especially pencil skirts) are a perfect summer office staple:  pair with nude pumps, add some sort of silky blouse….done.  Chic and professional and even a little sexy.

But what the heck do you do with your navy skirt in the winter?  Tall boots?  Sure.  *IF* your pencil skirt hits right at the knee or above, tall boots (which hit below the knee) could work.  But most pencil skirts fall right where tall boots end and the two end up in some sort of day-long war, both fighting for position.

So when it’s cold, we’re left with….tights.  But what color – navy?  NO.  Cream or white?  Probs not.  You could maaaaybe get away with an oxblood tight or forest green or something, but then you run the risk of becoming The Girl With The ColorFul Legs and as choices go, in a conservative office environment, that one might be best described as Career Limiting.

It all comes down to the black tights.

Black and navy is one of my favorite color combinations, but it can be tricky.  The key is to make the look intentional.  Here are three ways to style a navy pencil skirt with black tights for the office….using pieces you might already have.

Fall Office Edit: The 8 Pieces You Need To Makeover Your Work Wardrobe

The most-requested topic of late has been this: What to wear to the office?  You, dear readers, are looking for a few pieces that can easily be added into your existing wardrobes, and pieces that can do double duty – office then date night, or office and school pick-up.  In short, you’re looking for something fresh, versatile, but not overly precious.

So.  I pulled together a capsule wardrobe of pieces that not only go together, but can also be integrated into what you already have.  I’m targeting an office that’s business casual:   no jeans, per se, no open-toed shoes, but doesn’t necessarily require a suit everyday.

Here’s what I came up with:

Keep reading to see why I chose these specific pieces, how I’d integrate them into your existing wardrobe, and, of course, an edited selection of similar items.
