Since this week the blog is like one big ‘introduction to the opposites’ sketch, this athleisure queen was tasked with finding my inner glam. Immediately I started trolling Scotti’s posts for inspiration since she’s the resident glamazon around here. (And it’s not just in blog posts. Fun story: the first time I met Scotti in person was at the hotel we were staying at for Shana’s surprise birthday last year. It seriously felt like a celebrity sighting, she is that put together even on weekend morning – gorgeous makeup, hair did, heels. Me, on the other hand? Pretty sure my outfit involved stretchy pants and sneakers, and maybe tinted lip balm if I was feeling extra fancy.) I alternated between panic and avoidance for a week or so, until Shana asked how it was going on our weekly call. I said, quite seriously, “How about glam sweatshirts?” Shana replied, even more seriously, “I think it’s time to make an appointment with a Nordstrom stylist”. Gulp. Here’s the good, the bad and the ugly of what happened when I did.

Here I am again with another #dressingroomselfies post, y’all. It’s like I enjoy torturing myself with bad lighting and small rooms or something, but…I do. I like it. Especially sans kiddo, I love trying on a bunch of pieces and sharing my thoughts about them. I know. I’m nuts. I think most of us over here on the TME team are. But in a good way.
This time Shana suggested I try styling one item 5 different ways and we went with a striped tee this time around. It was a good approach to shopping that you might try out sometime! It gets the creative juices flowing. So without further ado, here we go…
Finally. Y’all, I’ve struggled since the holidays to find a new outfit I love. It was probably all the snow days I’ve spent in leggings and Uggs, but um, ugh. The creativity was gone. But…I’m back, baby! I randomly threw this outfit together for a kid’s birthday party (in all fairness, he is a pretty stylish 5 year old) last weekend and I’m loving it. I wanted comfortable but cool and I’ve landed on a new favorite…striped tee, moto jacket, blanket scarf & flat black boots. Check it.
Hey hey…new jeans! I’m officially a jean collector now…I cannot resist a good pair of denim. It’s kinda crazy, but I’m here for you…to try all the jeans and find the best. And these are good. I still love my skinny jeans, for sure, and boyfriend jeans have their place, but these. They are so versatile! (And don’t worry, they’re not cropped flares.) They are a straight-leg, step-hem jean.
The leg is a nice departure from skinny jeans but isn’t too wide and the uneven hem is a little unexpected and interesting. The shorter cut in front shows off ankles in a flattering way but the longer back hem adds versatility and is totally leg-lengthening.
I just had a feeling you guys would like AllSaints just as much as I do. They do timeless wardrobe essentials with a modern twist. Plus, the quality and tailoring of their clothing is so SO good. I fell in love with the brand when they opened their first store in Chicago. At the time, I was still in college and had a difficult time parting with $10, so, the thought of purchasing something from them, even from the sales rack was laughable. Instead I walked around the store touching everything and whispering “someday my pretty, someday.”
Bummed you missed the sale? Never fret! Their sale is STILL going on. Select items are up to 50% off plus an additional 20% off of sale items at checkout using the code January.
Even the sale section is included in J.Crew’s 40% off Black Friday sale! (Sale section discount is 50% on some pieces). Yes, they’ve got the elevated basics (that I love to stock up on) covered but this year there are so. many. bold. surprises. I’m in love with their luxe bright wool coats, amazing shoes & statement jewelry.
When Shana asked us all to take on the cropped flare trend, I was more than a little afraid. My height doesn’t technically fall into the petite category, but my short little leggies definitely do! Let’s just say ankle length jeans typically go past my heels. For cropped jeans to actually look cropped on me, they’ve got to be around 24-25 inches long – the more common 27-28 inch cropped length is to the floor. More brands are starting to make petite sizes of all their jean cuts (shout out to J.Crew!) but designer brands haven’t really gotten the memo yet (except one pair I found that were cropped enough for petites in the regular size!). It took a bit of searching, but these cropped flares are actually amazingly comfortable…and I did not hate them! If your legs are vertically challenged too, you’re gonna want to see these.
I am seriously loving this embroidered denim trend and during a recent trip to London, I saw it everywhere. Big names like Gucci and Stella McCartney have upgraded their denim staples with floral embroidery and embellishments, and other brands like Citizens of Humanity, Topshop, and River Island have followed suit (with less extravagant and much more affordable versions of this trend).
How to wear it?
BALANCE. It’s all about balance. I came to that realization today as I, toddler-like, tried to pair my embroidered denim with other equally colorful, shiny, or unique pieces. Reality being that I am definitely not a toddler but a 32 year old woman, I quelled my original impulses and paired my floral embroidered jeans with a simple white or black basic tee and neutral colored flats or booties. No matter how much the toddler in me wants to wear all of the flashy items in my closet at the same time….balance. (I’m still me, however, so I swapped out the neutral shoes for colorful, blue, lace-up flats).
Hey mamas of tiny ones…this post is yours. New mamas and all of us with still-soft tummies want a fall update, too. There are some lovely finds this season that are still kind to feeding babes and feeling fab postpartum.
Rounding up some of these finds made me a little nostalgic about those early days with Sienna. She was an adorable little bundle, with the roundest cheeks you ever did see! She started saying ‘hi’ at about 8 months old….and hasn’t stopped since.
