AllSaints All Day Long: How I Style Mine

I just had a feeling you guys would like AllSaints just as much as I do. They do timeless wardrobe essentials with a modern twist. Plus, the quality and tailoring of their clothing is so SO good. I fell in love with the brand when they opened their first store in Chicago. At the time, I was still in college and had a difficult time parting with $10, so, the thought of purchasing something from them, even from the sales rack was laughable. Instead I walked around the store touching everything and whispering “someday my pretty, someday.”

Bummed you missed the sale? Never fret! Their sale is STILL going on. Select items are up to 50% off plus an additional 20% off of sale items at checkout using the code January.

Fall Fav: Soft Blazers and Comfy Bomber Jackets

jacket | tee (similar or this!) | jeans | shoes (similar or these) | earrings

Fall! Fall has arrived with a gray, drizzly bang here in the Pacific Northwest. It literally arrived the day I tried most of these pieces on. And, although it was a really abrupt entrance, it’s gotten me super excited for cool weather, pumpkin everything and, of course…jackets.

I’m not the only one – several readers have been asking us to do a roundup of  soft blazers.  Many of you are looking for something like the one S wore in Europe (see her pics here), but with a lower price tag.  Knit jackets are mom gold:  comfy yet structured.   I started searching only for knit blazers, but expanded my search to include of-the-moment bomber jackets as well. Come along and see both the wins and the bombs…(pun intended).

Athleisure & Work Wear Selfies from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

Hey ladies – I made a naptime escape for my local Nordstrom today to try on some athleisure picks and workwear options from the sale! What did I find? Lots of killer comfy leggings, cool jackets (including this amazing Zella moto puffer!), cashmere sweaters and leather jackets to swap out for blazers this fall.

How To Wear White Right Now

white denim santin cami soft neutral outfit

Whites are trending big this season and neutrals have come so far from plain old tan. Soft, pastel hues like blush, dusty blue and mint have made their debut and become the new essentials to a well-rounded wardrobe. Neutrals have definitely garnered a bad rap over the years – deemed dull and boring, or overlooked in favor of more colorful trends. But when combined, neutrals can create an effortlessly chic and timeless look that’s surprisingly simple to pull off.

So if you’re looking for a refreshing spring style alternative….

….you consider yourself a rebel, someone who prefers to live life on the edge, push limits, break rules and wear white any.day.of.the.year you please…

Five Ways To Wear White Sneakers This Spring

samba sneakers white denim outfit

The white sneaker trend has been around for several years, and while most shoe trends would have fizzled out by now, stark white sneaks aren’t going anywhere soon.

I’ll admit it took me awhile to warm up to the trend, mainly because I am one of the messiest people on the planet. I seriously cannot keep anything clean- I usually need to change completely before I walk out the door, and I can’t help but feel that purchasing a pair of perfectly white and shiny sneakers is like purposefully tempting fate.

But, the more I saw them styled, the more I wanted them. Plus, there are sooo many cool white sneakers out right now that anyone can find their perfect pair.

I ended up with the Adidas Classic Samba, which I’ve wanted so badly since I was 10 years old and owned the Payless version that has like 6 stripes instead of three. These worked best for me because 1. They aren’t completely all white and 2. They have an off white suede toe cap that keeps them from scuffing as much.   Lastly they are super comfortable, as they are actually made for indoor soccer players.

Here are five ways I styled mine.

LOFT Dressing Room Selfies – Work Wear Edition

A new contributor? Nope, it’s me, Amanda! (yay…?) Some of you have been asking for work wear ideas, so I braved the camera and tried on a bunch of new arrivals at Loft. Postpartum mamas headed back to work, this one’s for you, too! Most of the tops and jackets I’m wearing conceal mum tums with a flowy plus structured formula. Overall there were some really great pieces and a few misses – I’ll give you details on fit, cut, quality and my absolute favorite piece that makes you look taller and slimmer and instantly put together. Bonus – most of these are on sale for 40% off right now!

Note: It might not look like it, but I swear I was having fun! It was really ridiculously hard for me to figure out where to position the phone to capture the neckline area so I was concentrating on the shot, not mah face – if you can’t tell, I’m a virgin dressing room selfie snapper. Also, wee case of resting b face (b for business?)

Also – this post isn’t sponsored, it’s just me and my opinions of Loft’s work wear.

Boyfriend Jeans, Statement Ankle Boots And A Layering Trick

I’ve talked before about how boyfriend jeans are slimming down – the new phrase is girlfriend jeans – and how much more flattering this new shape is.  You guys obviously agree – this pair of girlfriend jeans was one of the most-purchased items by TME readers in 2015.  (Those jeans are sold out, but the newer, lighter wash is currently 33% off at Nordstrom.)

We loooove our comfy jeans.

Anyway, I’ve been looking for a pair of light-wash girlfriend jeans and I think I’ve found a good one – Seven for All Mankind’s Relaxed Skinny Girlfriend Jean.  They’re slimmer, but unlike the Rag and Bones ones featured before, they’re extra slouchy around the hips, making them look more like guys’ jeans (yet still sexy and feminine).  Also, most sizes are on sale at Amazon.  So there’s that.

I’ve been wearing these Sevens constantly (you can see them with paired with converse on my Insta, @shanachristine), but one of my favorite ways to style is with statement ankle boots and lots of layers.

(I’m practicing the rule of 3.  Gosh, that’s from 2011.  Anyone remember that old post?)

Workwear Edit: Culottes (And The Various Ways To Style Them)

You guys have been asking for more workwear ideas, so I thought it was a perfect opportunity to test out a trend I’ve had my eye on for quite some time: Culottes.  This look won’t be for everyone, but it has the kind of unexpected fashion-girl vibe I love bringing into the office (in small, professional doses anyway).

But these darn things are tricky!!  Especially for petites.  Happily, I found a culotte romper (just go with me here) that’s available in both petite and regular sizes to test out this trend.  (And it’s now 40% off, so there’s that.)

And while I did figure out a way to warm it up (inside an office I’d lose the leather jacket but it was TWENTY DEGREES OUTSIDE PEOPLE), I also wanted to focus on styling culottes for Spring/Summer when I think they’ll really shine. So we headed into the studio, because, obviously. #freezing

First up:  Flats and culottes?  Is it possible?  Let’s see….

Winter Layers (Hello, Leather Jacket)

Mike and I had our day date on Saturday.  It was….glorious.  Truly, there is no other word.  We wandered around Philly, popping into shops, bookstores and coffee shops AT OUR LEISURE.  I realize, as I type this, that waxing so poetic about a day that would’ve been considered a very ordinary Saturday pre-kids may be discouraging for a new mama, but….aw, hell.    [cue hallelujah chorus]  OUR DAY WAS GLORIOUS.

It’s like when my sister was a newlywed and watched “this is 40” and was like, “this is supposed to be funny?”, and then Mike and I saw it and laughed so hard we were clutching our sides and had tears streaming down our faces.

But the one decidedly UN-glorious aspect of our day date was the fact that it was 20 degrees outside.  With a pretty biting wind.    I sort of resigned myself to puffer-land (it’s just what I do), but I had recently “invested” in a leather-jacket-soul-mate (Mike loves when I use words like “invested” to describe shopping) and was kinda dying to wear it.

With fuzzy pink mittens.
