To say that the “Amazon Coat” has been WILDY popular is actually an understatement. I don’t know if I’ve ever personally witnessed a singular winter outwear piece that has taken over sidewalks, playgrounds and ice skating rinks the way this one thickened down coat has. It’s EVERYWHERE! And if you’re set on having it, it’s still available and is now offered in a fun red and brand new metallic color as well.
If you have no idea what I’m talking about, I’m referring to the Orolay Thickened Down Jacket, which due to its success on Amazon is now ubiquitously referred to as the “Amazon Coat”. I did a review on “THE” coat last year and ended up deciding it wasn’t for me. This year, I’ve been looking for alternatives.
On-Trend: 12 Warm Coats Like The Amazon Orolay Jacket
You guys know I love my Uniqlo Puffer, and I’m a big fan of the Boden puffers, too (read more about both here), but there IS something that keeps me thinking back to that silly Orolay coat on Amazon…I guess that’s why so many people have it. It’s a good price point, it’s warm, it’s comfortable, it has interesting details, and the oversized look is cool, current, and a playful change from your everyday basic puffer. Laura has been rocking hers and looks so amazing in it.
The TME Philly team challenged me to find 10 (I actually found 12!) good alternatives to the “Amazon Coat” for those of you who have also decided this coat isn’t the one for you. Maybe too many people on your playground are already wearing it, or maybe you don’t like the idea of wearing an “it” coat. Maybe it has too many zippers for you, maybe you were looking for plus sizing, or maybe you’re looking for something that’s made with more sustainable materials or a winter coat not from Amazon. I’ve got ALL the options.
1. The Puffer Jacket I Tried
TME Why: Some similarities to the Orolay style-wise, but with eco-friendly PrimaLoft and plus sizing available.
Extra Fun: Cool gold zippers & six fabulous colors (I personally LOVE the muslin & yellow).
My full review coming soon, but Julieta looks amazing in hers here.
2. Urban-Chic With Recycled Fill
TME Why: Features resemble the Orolay, but with stylish black faux fur trim, less puffiness, and recycled fill.
Perfect For: Daily urban wear.
TME Why: Cool oversizing & clean lines with less fussiness than the Orolay.
Color Notes: Beautiful deep red & pastel green available.
4. Super-Warm & Responsibly Sourced
TME Why: Canadian companies KNOW cold! Similar oversized look as the Orolay, but from beloved and well-respected Lolë.
Sustainability Note: Responsibly sourced down fill.
5. An Almost Exact Match (But NOT from Amazon)
The TME WHY: Almost exact replica of Orolay coat, but NOT from Amazon.
Perfect For: The shopper avoiding Amazon.
6. AllSaints Higher-End Chic
TME Why: AllSaints just makes everything special.
Details: Gorgeous zip detailing with the exaggerated hood makes for a very special coat.
7. More Color & Size Options Than Orolay
TME Why: Pretty much the exact same coat as Orolay, but with 13 color options including color-blocked. Wider sizer range than Orolay.
Perfect For: Someone who loves the Orolay Coat, but wants a unique color and plus sizing
8. An Awesome Sustainable Choice
TME Why: Shell=100% recycled polyester and fill = 100% recycled down & feathers. Go Everlane Go! I love this dark spice color, but Shana has and loves the black.
Pro Tip: Size up for an oversized fit.
9. Oversized, Budget & Eco-Friendly
TME Why: Budget-friendly & filled with recycled polyester. The on-trend oversized look is similar to the Orolay.
Color Notes: Available in red, tan and green too.
10. Shorter Puffer With Recycled Fill
TME WHY: Shorter option with super-cute side vent details that resemble one of my favorite things about the Orolay.
Fun Brand Fact: Abercrombie uses recycled fill.
11. A Coat With Designer Style
TME Why: Upscale designer feel with a fabulous oversized pillow collar.
Styling Note: The lines of this coat look just as pretty unzipped as zipped.
TME Why: The North Face is well-known for quality.
Perfect For: The gal who wants the perfect combo of performance and style.

Hope everyone has found (or soon finds) their perfect puffer coat…it’s getting COLD at least here in Philly! I’m obviously a little obsessed with the challenge of finding ALL the good puffers, so don’t be surprised if I keep going with this theme. Shout it out if there are other brands you want us to look at this winter!
