Shana’s Go-To Holiday Outfit

Happy holidays!  We’re a little early here, but with Thanksgiving right around the corner…we’re going with close enough.    So let’s kick things off with a week of Go-To Holiday Style.

It’s easy to get caught up in style possibilities around the holidays – the pretty dresses, the gorgeous shoes, the shimmery little tanks – holiday dressing is often part fantasy.  All that shine and sparkle.  But when it comes down to it….most of us won’t be donning sweeping gowns or sequin-encrusted mini dresses for our holiday soirees.  So we wanted to start with what we’re really going to be wearing for the holidays.   Each day this week, one of the TME editors will cover their tried-and-true, Honestly Yes I Will Be Wearing This, Go-To holiday outfit.

Here’s mine.

Start With Jeans and A Pretty Top

I love a pretty top.  Not only are they perfect for the holidays, but any time I need to look dressed up or festive or polished….I reach for a pretty top.  It distracts from my permanently messy hair.

(As does lipstick. #protip #haha)

Add Faux Fur, Statement Booties, and Bling

My holiday philosophy is this:  dress casually, then BLING.

And since it is the most festive time of year, I don’t even worry about being over the top.  Faux fur?  Yes.  Glitter?  Of course.  Lipstick and jewelry and Shiny Baubles Masquerading As Purses?  Bling a ring a ding dong, yes to allll the ‘ands’.

(Also yes to Mike carrying my lipstick and my phone and and and…whatever else because only a credit card fits into this purse.  HOLIDAYS.)

Outfit Details – Shana

faux-fur jacket: Forever 21 Boxy Faux Fur Jacket  (size S for reference) – this jacket is currently on sale for $30, but only size L is left.  Never fear, we have more faux-fur jacket picks below (most under $100)….

top: Joie Lace V-Neck top (size XS for reference)

jeans: AG – still my favs

glitter boots: super old BCBG Charm Booties – only black glitter is left, but we’ve rounded up some seriously amazing statement boots below

jeans: Hudson Knit Denim jeans – P’s are sold out, but here’s a similar pair

shoes: Adidas Supra’s

Shop Pretty Tops

My favorites range from tshirts with a little something special….to demure silk blouses….to glam feathered tops.  Any of these tops would be a perfect base for a killer holiday outfit.

Shop Faux Fur Coats

I’m shocked by how much use I’ve gotten out of my cheap little faux-fur jacket.  Not only does it always look glam, but it’s actually toasty warm.  Who knew?  I wear mine enough to justify a costlier version (like this one at Anthro – it’s a cross between a faux fur jacket and a sweatshirt hoodie and is FABULOUS)….but we rounded up our favorites under $115 below.

Shop Statement Boots

You can wear black boots….but these are so much more fun. And more practical than most party-worthy shoes.  (I throw mine over a pair of thick Smartwool socks.)  *Most* pairs below are under $200.  Most.

Shop Party Bags

I use these mostly for decoration, and emergency cash/credit cards/etc.  If I need to haul around kid stuff or cameras or whatnot, Mike usually packs the bag.  Or I’ll bring a larger bag and stash it somewhere (if we’re at a party).

May all your bells be jingle-  #no

May all your Santas have lots of ho- #no

May your Nutcracker- #no

Sparkle and shine, Mamas.  That’s all I got.  SPARKLE AND SHINE.

  1. I love this! I have those exact charm booties, same colour and all, and am always stuck with how to wear them – aside from black jeans. Thank you!

  2. I love that you’re wearing a fur coat! I would love to see a conversation about the do’s and don’ts. I have a vintage one that I got at a yard sale from a bunch of adorable old ladies. I love it…but feel like I’m not quite sure how to wear it. HELP!!

    • I feel like vintage is acceptable – also, just wear it and let people assume it’s faux. I have some fur collars and a fur capelet I inherited from my grandmother… I have worn the collar a few times and no one said anything.

  3. I love it all! And I’m glad I’m not the only one wondering where everyone is going in the long dresses and cocktail wear I see pop up around the holidays. My social circle is definitely more jeans plus glamorous/fancy top.

  4. Love, love, love the lariat necklace you are wearing! Please, more info if you can! You so effortlessly look polished yet fun and messy at the same time, I love the look.

  5. Need holiday ideas for cocktail parties with coworkers… not black tie but dressier than I am used to. Also, I have a hard time thinking about any footwear other than boots when it’s winter. And bare legs? Any help would be much appreciated! Because currently I’m looking at all black. But that’s not very festive.
