Spring Denim: Destroyed and Embellished Light Wash

True to my Taurus sign, I’m very much creature of habit – once I find a style of jeans that works on my body and fits well, it’s a no-brainer. And my love affair with Paige Verdugo skinnies is no secret! Though black skinnies will always be the most flattering in my opinion, I wanted to lighten up for spring. Here’s the thing: skinny, light-colored pants on can be tricky if it’s just an expanse of solid color stretching tightly across your thighs and bum, so here were some criteria I had in mind:

  • Something to add interest on the legs – distressing, destruction, embroidery or otherwise embellished
  • Variation in light denim shades within the jeans to make them as flattering as possible
  • Cropped or ankle length but not necessarily petite-sized makes it easier to find more options

It’s true that the Paige’s happened to be my faves, but I found a couple more styles that will definitely be on permanent repeat in my denim collection. (I made that sound way fancier than the crowded shelf at the top of the closet). Want to see which spring denim I loved?

I’m so in love with these Paige Verdugo destructed skinnes (on sale!). I was a little worried because they are a lot lighter than anything I currently own, but took a chance on the amazing Mayan embroidered tapestry-like fabric behind the ripped patches. It is so, so good. I usually don’t wear a lot of embellishments – ruffles, sequins, tassels, etc, so this subtle but interesting detail is perfect for wearing with solid color tops or graphic tees. I’m loving the destructed denim style with this femme lace top for contrast.paige-mayab-skinnies

The color is definitely not as light as the model pic – it has variations and isn’t such a bright blue. The cool Mayan fabric patch starts above the first rip, and continues down to the knee so it’ll look even cooler with wash and wear as the fraying gets even more lived in. The fabric is rich and lovely and most importantly, soft.

Paige Spring Denim

Hinge lace top, Nordstrom (M): This is the same one I wore in the Athleisure-to-Glam style post and I love it with all things denim for spring. The pretty, delicate lace is a nice contrast to the ripped jeans.

Paige Verdugo Destructed Mayan Patch (29)- These are ankle length so perfect for petites who can’t find petite sizes! Which happens a lot with designer jeans. I had to roll them a tiny bit to wear with ankle boots but with flats or low heels they’re the perfect length.

Earth Intrepid peep-toe booties – I was looking for a cool peep-toe sandal like this for a long time and finally found the holy grail – comfortable, walkable and a little edgy. Another reason to love them: only your big toe & the one next to it show, so you only need to paint those nails for insta-pedicure! They’re Earth brand, which is known for comfort and they definitely deliver on that promise. The soft taupe suede also goes with everything. It was a hard choice though since it comes in black, khaki and a dusty Moroccan blue as well. Swoon.

Here are some more Paige light-wash skinny jeans that caught my eye:

So I picked up these Joe’s skinny ankle jeans a few weeks ago and have been waiting for a warm day to wear them! These were actually my first pair of ripped jeans (Laura: rolls eyes). So exciting! They’re also a 29 but a little bit higher rise and noticeably tighter than the Paige Verdugos and I love how they fit. They’re not exactly light spring denim, but I linked to light wash versions below!

Since Boston’s not ready to trade in buffalo plaid for gingham anytime soon, this is how I’m wearing them to the St. Patty’s day parade in Boston. Maybe with tights underneath #omgstopsnowing. This Free People thermal (M) is sooo comfy cozy and I’m digging the mint color with spring denim (thanks for the recco, Laura!) Also – thumbholes! I got these Madewell x Sorel booties during a post-holiday sale – they’re still available but in very limited sizes.

This is how I plan to wear them when it’s finally spring, with a nude/pink graphic tee and my fave spring peep-toe booties:

Please excuse the wrinkles, I don’t iron tees. Or anything else.

Here are some more Joe’s skinny ankle jeans in lighter washes – I’m seriously coveting the ones with black lace backed knee holes!

  1. Hi there! Love the Paige denim…but they look more like a girlfriend cut on you vs a skinny on the model. Did you size up (I prefer the way they look on you)?

    • Amanda Rogers on

Hi JC, I’m wearing a 29, but my waist is pretty much the same size as my hips so jeans tend to be baggier to account for my lack of booty – my inseam is also petite so sometimes the thighs are baggier on regular jeans. They’re definitely not like second skin kind of tight though. Hope that helps! xo

  2. I think these pants look much better on you than they do the model!… I love the whole outfit you are wearing! Great job

  3. Thank you for finding the Earth booties! I would never have come across them, but like you, they are just what I have been looking for. Holy Grail, indeed!
