Layer Love: The Perfect Cardigan for Spring and Summer

Oh, yessss. This cardigan. Before you wonder why I am sharing layering pieces of any kind right now (IT’S ALMOST SUMMER, CAMS), let me explain. This gauzy, pretty Free People Cardigan is one of my most favorite purchases to date (and I do not say that without realizing the weight of that statement). It’s lightweight, casual enough to be worn with everyday get-ups and just so damn cool looking.

I had been looking for a jacket-type cardigan all Fall and Winter, but never came across one that wasn’t the usual classic, preppy style (which is all well and good, but I wanted something different, ya know?). Well, FP got me with this one. I’ll have to hang it up, with the swelteringly hot Carolina weather that is sure to arrive here soon, but am totally fine with that…because it will be all ready for me to grab when the windy Fall mornings and evenings return.

Basically, consider getting this cardigan. FP has a crazy similar one called the ‘Brentwood’ that Scotti rocked not too long ago when she visited Philly.

Either way, it’s a good one, ya’ll.

outfit details

cardigan: Free People Get Your Gauze Cardigan – also found at Nordstrom (if you prefer ordering from there). I also ran into their Brentwood Cardigan, which looks like it may be a bit thicker, for all of you that live in a cooler climate. TTS.

top: Madewell Whisper Cotton Crewneck Tee – definitely a great basic tee, but thin. It comes in a few different colors. TTS.

shorts: rag & bone Cutoff Shorts – my favorite pair of shorts right now. They say they fit TTS, but I think you could maybe go down a size. They stretch out as the day goes on.

sandals: Steve Madden Adrien – it looks like it’s selling out quickly… the Gila Sandal is similar, though.

bag: old Sole Society – I’m loving the new Stark Cross body (and it comes in a few pretty, light colors).

earrings: Nickel & Suede Leather Earrings – my favorite earrings…wear them almost every day. I can barely tell I’m wearing them, they’re so lightweight, which I really appreciate. They come in a variety of colors and sizes.

  1. What size did you get for the cardigan and how tall are you? Did the sleeves seem long? I’m 5’3″ average build, 125 lbs and wondering if I should do S or M.

  2. What color are you wearing? Is it Ballet? I saw in the comments that the Ballet looks more like a salmon color and in the Mom Edit post, it definitely looks salmon.

  3. The link to the bag is not the same as the photo. Can you please provide the correct link and the name/ style of the bag? Thanks!
