I’ve been a proponent of faux-leather leggings since day one (literally the first article I posted was about them). Since I saw so many as part of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, I thought it would be fun to do a comparison. Are they all the same? Is it really worth it to get the more expensive pair? I ordered my favorites, took some notes and some pics, and have broken down my top choices for you (all on sale!).
These are my favorite of the bunch. They aren’t lined, but still managed to smooth out dimples and were short enough to not pool around my ankles. I ordered a medium and they fit perfectly. They aren’t high-rise, but somehow the waistband isn’t too tight and super comfortable (no muffin top!). Plus they’re machine-washable, which is always a plus in my book.
These are lined, so they’ll be great for colder weather, and the lining sculpts your body and holds everything in. They run true to size (I’m wearing a medium) and stretchy so they’re super comfy. The length is a bit too long, but I’m not sure that it matters too much (especially if you’re wearing them with boots). The high rise is flattering and there’s no muffin top, which is always a plus, and they’re machine-washable.
I’m laughing because I ordered the wrong size and you can definitely tell. I’m normally a 28 and for some reason ordered the 27’s. That’s why they’re not laying right. I loved the zippers on the back, and the length was shorter (although I am wearing a size too small), but the fabric was super sticky when they rubbed together and they kind of had that stinky polyurethane smell. Plus they’re spot clean only which may be a deal-breaker. They aren’t lined like the Lysse ones.
These fit more like faux leather pants . . . they weren’t very tight, especially around the ankles, and I was wearing a small. The waistband is high, but super annoying. It was too tight (go figure) and kind of rubbed and was scratchy. I did like the length and the zippers but the waistband was a deal-breaker for me. Hand wash, dry flat.
I followed the sizing guidelines and bought a small (4-6), but these were definitely way too small. They may look like they’re baggy, but that was because I couldn’t pull them up all the way over my butt! They had a lower waist than the other ones and weren’t as stretchy. These might be better for girls without curves! I did love the feel of the fabric, though, and the seam across the knees. Hand wash and dry flat.
If you aren’t ready for the full-blown faux leather leggings, you might want to dip your toe into the trend with these mixed moto leggings. They’re super comfortable, high rise and machine-washable (tumble dry low). I’m wearing a medium and they fit perfectly (ok, maybe a teensy bit long). Be warned, though, they are see-through when you stretch them too much. I think you’d definitely want a bum-covering top with these.
