GANG. Thank you – SO MUCH – for all of your restaurant and things-to-do recommendations for our D.C. trip! We had an insanely good time, and never had to worry about finding anything (breakfast/lunch/dinner/shops/etc) because you had us covered. I’ll share a whole weekend trip report soon.
Pax tried oysters. For the first time. I’m honestly not sure what possessed him to try them – he’s not that adventurous an eater – but we were all talking and laughing at Hank’s Oyster Bar and he was just, like, oh hey I’ll try those. I mean….do you stop him? So Mike and I tried to play it cool but I was DYING while he downed one like a champ. He had his glass of water close by (for emergencies), and ended up just…..loving it.
Weekend Sale Report….the big news is that the Nordstrom Fall Clearance Sale is still going strong. And by that I mean my bee clutch is still available. We just updated our sale round-up from last week (removed sold-out pieces, and added mens, kids and home), so shop happy. You can see our complete sale picks in this week’s Weekend Sale Report. Also included? LOFT’s 40% off sale (I’m loving this starry night pj set specifically), Express’ 40% off sale (yes to this giant, super soft sweater), some CB2 finds, and finally, 25% off All Saints (check out this oversized, striped coziness).
I tried on an $800 dress. Accidentally. It was A.L.C., so I kiiiinda knew what I was getting myself into, but I had a number rattling around in my head that was more in the $500 range than the $800 range (which is still more than I wanted to spend) but it was a little black dress (so versatile!!) yet….surprising and unexpected and soooo beautiful (check out THE BACK). But alas, it was $795, so I left it Gorgeous And Alone in the dressing room and bought a pair of jeans instead. #typical
A jewelry line you need to know about. Dylan Lex, a line of jewelry that I’ve been drooling over from afar (a piece costs as much as that ALC dress), just launched a lower-priced line, DLNLX, that stays shockingly true to the original vibe of over-the-top-glamour-but-still-totally-badass. It’s the most exciting thing I’ve seen in a while. And? You can also find it at Nordstrom. I want this one.
Best socks for cropped jeans. You guys keep asking about the socks I wear with my cropped jeans, and the ones I’ve had the most success with are Chup for JCrew Smartwool socks. Happily, they brought them back again this year, so I’m going to buy one of each.
No bonus for you. It turns out that women – despite being half of the population – are found in executive roles at a rate of 1 in 10. Yet according to this piece by Sheryl Sandberg (of Google and Lean In fame), most of us when polled – men and women included – think companies are doing alright with gender equality. Um. If your quarterly sales goals were to increase revenue by 50% and you managed just 10%….what do you think your bonus would be? Time to increase expectations, obvi.
I know what I’m reading this weekend….Lockwood & Co Book 5 is OUT. Actually, it was out in September, but I must’ve missed that launch. For those of you who don’t know, Lockwood and Co is, ok yes, a kid’s novel (let’s go with teen), but is so spine-tinglingly good that I can’t put it down. So if you’re a Harry Potter or sci-fi nerd in general, this is good stuff. I also appreciate when an author actually makes their release date for a series, and doesn’t miss it by, say, years. *cough*georgerrmartin*cough*
There are no words, Mr Andres. If you haven’t yet heard, Chef Jose Andres has been feeding Puerto Rico. Since the hurricane, he left his DC restaurants, went down to Puerto Rico, and has served more than 2 million warm meals and sandwiches. Hero doesn’t even begin to describe it. If you are headed to D.C. throw some support his way. We’ve been longtime fans of Jaleo, and will be dreaming about Oyamel (and their salty-foam topped margaritas) for a long time.
One special announcement…..we’ve been getting ready for the holidays, BIG TIME. In one week from today, we’re going to be dropping a little something we’ve been working realllllly hard on: The Lazy Girl’s Guide To Holiday Style. But here’s the thing: it’ll only be available to newsletter subscribers. So c’mon lazy girls – subscribe to our newsletter, here. (We’ve also been working to streamline our newsletter, too. Let us know if there’s something specific you’d like to see, or anything we need to change – we’re seriously all ears.)
