Right around Valentine’s Day my skin usually feels dry and dull from the winter months. Anyone else? You know what helps? Bright, glossy lips and shimmery highlighter.
Too Faced has this amazing lip gloss that plumps your lips – it’s called Lip Injection and it comes in a bunch of colors, a clear version, and an extreme version. While it won’t give you Kylie Jenner lips in one swipe, it does add some volume and it’s super tingly for a few minutes when first applied. I’m wearing the color Like a Boss (amazing name), a purple-orchid color that stands out from the typical red lip. (Not that red lips are ever a bad choice).
So let’s talk about this highlighter. It’s a powder formula from Kevyn Aucoin’s makeup line and has a range of iridescent shades from light cream to purple (see the pic below). You can use it as a highlighter and/or eyeshadow but for this look I just used it as a highlighter on the top of my cheekbones to add some brightness and life to my winter skin. The colors are beautiful and unique and I often get lots of compliments when I wear it. A little goes a long way and I barely have to tap my brush into the powder to get the right amount. (Check out this picture for an idea of what it looks like on the eyes).
Foundation – Kevyn Aucoin The Etherealist Illuminating Foundation My new favorite foundation, I tried this as a sample that came with a Sephora purchase and fell in love. It’s lightweight (not cakey) and creates a dewy finish without being overly shiny. Plus it contains Hyaluronic Acid which is SO good for keeping skin hydrated – especially in the winter months.
Highlighter – Kevyn Aucoin The Neo-Limelight Highlighter in Ibiza It’s pricey, but you’ll literally only have to buy it once and the colors are super unique.
Blush: Benefit Lollitint Lip & Cheek Stain This stain has long been a favorite of mine and it helps to add some color and brightness to your skin. It has more luminosity because of the liquid formula and unlike some cheek and lip stains, it actually looks good on both cheeks and lips.
Lips: Clinique Quickliner for Lips in Sky Violet & Too Faced Lip Injection Glossy in Like a Boss: Clinique has some of the best liners (both eye and lip) and sky violet is a favorite of mine to wear with purple lipsticks and glosses.
Mascara: Estee Lauder Sumptuous Knockout Lift & Fan Mascara I’ve been keeping my lashes natural for the last few weeks (lash rehab) and having the right mascara makes such a difference. I love this formula that separates my lashes and is buildable without being clumpy.
When I get ready, I almost always do my makeup first. I often have no idea what I want to wear, but I’ll know I want to wear a specific lipstick or eyeshadow. I’m often reaching for shades of black and grey clothes because it’s the easiest thing to pair with any makeup look. I try to add in fun accessories like statement earrings, unique booties and bags in cool colors to add some variety to my otherwise 50 shades of grey outfits. (This Julian backpack is my most recent purchase and I’m LOVING it . . . it’s silver, so that doesn’t count as grey, right? Plus it’s 50% off right now!)
