Floral Blazer Styled for Now & Later

If you had told me last year I’d be obsessed with a floral blazer this year I probably wouldn’t have believed you. But here we are and here I AM.

This was a piece I got a few months back on a whim because it was cheap and why the heck not? Little did I realize I’d fall in love with this blazer as one of my favorite closet pieces. It makes a statement, but it’s also easy to wear. Those are my very favorite kind of finds.

You may have seen it over on IG (@elletrain) during our style challenges when I paired it with a giant scarf and rain boots (you can see the outfit in my highlights under Style Challenges). I have been able to wear this thing in all seasons so far which is always a plus for anything in your closet!

How I’m Wearing It Now

This is an easy, versatile outfit that’s dressy enough (for dressier just swap out a non-distressed jean) and still comfy. Always our ideal outfit here at TME. I’d swap out black high waisted jeans here for an amazing travel outfit. Like you’ll see below, this is my first foray into the full top tuck and I’m loving it in this case. It really does lengthen my legs and I feel more confident in it with the light blazer on top. Win.

Blazer – This Ellazhu Floral Blazer is a random find on Amazon, I think after being inspired by Shana’s post last year, and I love it. It’s lightweight and the print is just on the mark. I’m wearing a Medium here, so it does run small.

TankAlternative Apparel tops are so great. I love this tank and it comes in a bunch of colors.

Jeans – Abercrombie High Rise Girlfriend Jeans are what I’m wearing here and LOVE. I think this is the first time I’ve gone for the full shirt tuck-in, too. A momentous occasion for sure. These break in nicely and are more like a vintage denim material than a super stretchy jean. This exact wash/distressing is sold out but all of the medium and light washes available are super similar. I’m loving the pair with the studs, too. The High Waisted Tom Girl jean from American Eagle is also super similar.

Shoes – My mules are long gone, but these from Sam Edelman are very close and gorgeous. I like a pointed toe rather than a rounded toe, personally, for an added cool vibe. I’m loving this Franco Sarto mule, too.

Bag – This one from DSW is very similar but with a subtle metal detail.

How I’ll Wear It Later

Shorts and I have a love-hate with each other, but shorts with a light jacket like this just feels…more covered and helps me, again, feel more confident. Is this a magical jacket?? I think so. I’m really loving this outfit and can’t wait for it to warm up just a bit more so I can wear this on the reg. The sneakers here are a nice chunkier weight and are so flattering on bare legs. I’m loving my Superstars these days and wearing them with joggers, leggings and jeans, too.

Tee – The Madewell Whisper Cotton V Neck Pocket tee is my favorite tee for sure. I wear a size Small and it’s just slightly, perfectly oversized…ie. not tight on the mom tummy.

ShortsMine are from Gap but I’m also loving these black Levi’s and I want to update. So cute.

Sneakers – I didn’t realize how much I’d love Adidas Superstars. They are amazingly comfortable and flattering on your legs, especially in shorts, since they have a bit of a chunkier look. So good. I’m wearing mine ALL the time now. Size down half a size, I think. They run a little big. And I love these socks with them for a no-sock look. Best.

Earrings – New favorite ear crawlers, from Anthro. Mine are color Rose, but LOVING the one they’re calling Wine…which really looks like rainbow colors and I’m now obsessed.

If you stumbled upon a closet favorite like this I’d love to hear what it is. Anything that is a fun, unexpected item you love. Do share!

And shout out to all those teachers out there who are most likely having a crazy time of it right now. I salute you and your very hard work with our kiddos. You’re truly tops and I hope you get a little rest time in the very near future. Much love!

  1. But can we also talk about your awesome glasses frames? WOW! Where did you find those? (Love the rest of the post too.)

  2. Elizabeth Rafter on

I bought this blazer based on your earlier recommendation and I love it, too! I frequently grab it to throw on over whatever I’m wearing when I leave the house. I never thought about wearing it with shorts, but now I’m thinking I’ll definitely give it a try! Thanks for the inspiration! As always!!

  3. Full tuck FTW!!! I full tucked last week for the first time in . . . Maybe 20 yrs? Kinda newly loving it!!!

And a request – I LOVED your dad-sneak look, actually. Would you do a post deconstructing that dad-sneak-trench look? Want to copy it this fall!

  4. Haha. Thanks lady! Woo for the full tuck! I have another pic styling the dad sneaks that still use that trench coat on my Instagram @elletrain in the Style Challenges highlights if you want to check that out for now! I kinda wish I had kept the dad sneaks!! Maybe I’ll have to revisit them for the fall!
