The kitchen I grew up in had olive green appliances. Inexplicably, it was carpeted — wall-to-wall. The carpet was dark, almost black, but it had some sort of pattern running throughout — an orange border making squares on the black (dark brown??) with varying shades of brown, orange, yellow, and olive green thrown in for good measure. The carpeting ran from the sink to the far wall where our kitchen table sat, framed by patterned wallpaper and a rotary phone.
The wallpaper looked….much like this shirt.
Obviously, when I saw this shirt at Banana, it was love at first sight. It turns out that all I want to wear right now is basically my mother’s 1977 kitchen.
top: Banana Republic Floral Top – xs for reference (also in black….which looks more like the carpeting, haha, but both are solid choices). Both are on sale! And see more wallpaper top picks below….
shorts: Mother Charmer Denim Cut-off Shorts – obsessed with the high rise and dark color. But the real magic is the fact that these shorts are a few inches longer than what I typically wear…yet totally soft and stretchy — which means that my bum is always covered, but hugged properly at the same time. And the shorts won’t squeeze the leg in an unflattering way, either. All sizes available (with free shipping) at the Mother Denim site, too. These are obvi my favorites, but if you want something more budget-friendly, try one of these:
