The Best Party Tops To Wear Under Blazers

The problem I have with complicated tops (ruffled, belled, flared, ruched) is that they are rarely warm enough to be worn by themselves on a cold December night. Yet they’re often too…architecturally challenging to fit underneath a blazer. And I really like being able to throw on a sexy little top with a pair of jeans and a blazer. It’s my holiday style equivalent of mashed potatoes: everyone can eat it (gluten-free, nut-free, sometimes vegan), it’s comforting, and even better with a little somethin’ – somethin’.

So here are my favorite sexy little tops to provide that somethin’ – somethin’ (and they ALL can be easily layered under a blazer).

Outfit Details

blazer: Banana Republic Ponte Blazer – wearing size 0Petite – I’m obsessed with this blazer. It’s soft and stretchy (and similar to my much-more-expensive James Perse sweatshirt blazer). Even better, I’ve heard back from a bunch of readers who have taken the plunge — you guys all agree it’s a good one.

top: Anthropologie Encore Shine Top – XS – this top is so pretty and sexy in person. Wear over a pretty, racerback bra.

jeans: AG Farrah Jeans – in similar wash here. These are basically the same as my much-beloved AG Legging jeans, but with a higher rise. They’re my new favs — I wear them almost every day.

boots: Free People Cecile – These have been some of my most-worn boots for years. The shaft height is perfect, and the heel is walkable.

bag: Zarapack (similar) – I love this crazy thing. I also like this faux-fur crossbody bag by Vince Camuto…

faux-fur scarf: Social Threads Faux-Fur Scarf – such a fun piece to dress up,… well….anything!

earrings: J.Crew drop earrings (color: smokey haze)

  1. I snagged pair of AG Farrahs at TJ Maxx last month…I have worn them at least 3 times a week since. They are a damn delight. And now I’m sorely tempted by that blazer!
