Which Coat? Plaid or Leopard

If I ever invite you over, just know that you’ll have to put your coat on my couch. There’s no room in the entry closet, as I have a mild obsession with outerwear (AND, let’s face it, entry closets are strangely small). My husband is reading this, so yeah, um, I’m preparing for a massive outerwear purge promptly after I finish this post. I promise, after it’s all said and done, my statement coats will always make the cut. They’re such an easy way to add interest and style to your look, which requires the same amount of effort as reaching for your fleece pullover. Besides being easy, a statement coat is versatile because it looks as good with jeans and joggers as it does with something a little more polished. I’ve styled a plaid coat and a leopard coat with a classic black sweater dress, so you can see how it elevates the monochrome look. So, the only question is, which one will you choose?

Checkered Jacket (ASOS) – At under $50, this coat is a steal! It’s lighter weight which makes it perfect for styling with all the layers. I sized down and was still comfortable throwing my fave moto jacket on underneath. Eva Chen inspired me to look for opportunities to layer my outerwear, and I love the result.

Moto Jacket (Nordstrom) – Whaaaa, this is FINALLY on sale! Less than $60 and stocked in tons of sizes, so run to grab yours. Something about the tailored, quilted and zippered sleeves made me keep this Moto jacket, even though I have a few others.

Sweater Dress (Cable Stitch) – I included this in my sweater dress roundup, and it’s been showing in my ads ever since, so I had to try. It runs a little big, so size down. The ribbing is wider than I thought, so it hung more loose than I’d prefer from this silhouette. A size down would fix that right up.

Booties (Similar, Nordstrom) – I wear these black booties a lot when I want a little height, but with the stability of a block heel. The similar pair I’ve linked is highly rated by more than 400 reviewers.

Backpack (similar, Amazon): This is another oldie but goodie. I generally prefer minimalist bags, but the chain detail was just enough.

Leather Gloves (Similar, Amazon) – IDK if these are sexy or scary, but I’m probably a healthy mix of both, so they’re good by me! And yes, even accessories like gloves can really elevate your look.

Beret (ModCloth) – Berets are a must-have accessory for the all the stylish gals with big heads/hair, especially if you’re like me and have both! This beret fit me comfortably and wasn’t scratchy at all. There’s also a similar option available here in tons of colors.

Liquid Lipstick (Sephora) – This matte shade, Cherry Moon, from Sephora is beyond gorgeous. I don’t always use lip liner, so I love that this stays put without it. It comes in dozens of shades that include matte, satin, and metallic finishes. Check out my other beauty favs for more!

Yes, I think the single-button hits me in just the right spot! And yes, I take so many bad pics, but they never see the light of day, if I can help it, LOL!

  1. Oh man, I love your writing and your style. I want both coats! (Too bad it’s still 80 degrees in Los Angeles. That sounds like a brag, but I want sweater season, damn it.)

This is a tough call. And I love both coats, but I have to go leopard. Always and forever, leopard. (I’m afraid I’m slowly becoming Peg Bundy 💁🏼‍♀️)
