Laura and I have been on a Mission to Branch Out From A Skinny Jean Rut. But allow me to be very clear: It’s January, so my skinny-jean-wearing days will continue until at least March. Maybe April. Skinnies are the only jean that look reliably cute with snow boots and/or over-the-knee boots, my two winter go-tos. But once Spring comes, watch me BLOOM into fresh new denim like a goddamn FLOWER.
That’s the idea, anyway. Here’s what I found thus far:
Six Cute Pairs of Bootcut (or Straight Leg) Jeans For Spring
1. AG Angel Flare (aka Bootcut) Jeans
True to form, these AG bootcut jeans are insanely soft, and have that perfectly faded wash that AG does so well. These remind me of my collage days (in the best possible way). The rise is lower than I would have expected for 2019, but HEY It adds to the nostalgic charm.
2. FRAME Mini Bootcut
Similar to the AGs in wash and softness, these Frame mini bootcut jeans have a higher rise. I think they fit a little more snug, too.
3. GRLFRND Karolina Jeans
I’ve actually owned this pair for over a year now, and remembered that they were, in fact, straight leg jeans. I do like these, so why the hunt for another pair? Well….these jeans are just too legit. Their nod to nostalgia includes non-stretch, high-rise denim which is suuuuuper sexy (I love the way these look), but after a couple of hours I want to rip them from my body. I like breathing normally and eating too much. Ya know. Stuff like that.
4. MOTHER Denim Tomcat Jeans
5. rag & bone Ankle Cigarette (No Stretch) Jeans
rag & bone rarely lets me down…but these rag & bone Ankle Cigarette Jeans in Farrah may be one of those times. The best part about these jeans is the wash…but like the GRLFND Karolinas, they’re made from non-stretch denim. And since rag & bone is always pretty tight on the legs, in non-stretch denim they’re REALLY tight. Even for my skinny bird legs. I suspect they’ll loosen with time, but I’M OLD ENOUGH TO BE LIKE NO. NO THANK YOU.
6. rag & bone High-Rise Dre Jeans
rag & bone Dre’s have been my favorite boyfriend jean (or girlfriend jean, whatever) for years. So I was super-excited to see them with an updated, higher rise. And? I. LOVE. THEM. The only thing I didn’t love about this particular pair was the wash (too boring), but I’m keeping my eye out for another. I think this style will be around for a while.

The jeans I tried on above, a few additional pairs I can personally vouch for, and some others that have caught my eye.
Which pair is your favorite? (And has anyone else had any luck?)
