Run Errands In Style: All You Need Is A Leopard Coat

It was 2007, my first time in NY. I looked with disbelief at how you could go out in pajamas to run errands and nobody would bat an eye. The Colombian in me thought it was so weird because women here are always looking their best. They can be wearing leggings but you’ll see them with makeup, nails and hair done.

I mean, my mom does her hair and makeup to go to the gym. Which is why it’s not a surprise that I every once in a while go to Trader Joe’s with baby in tow looking like . If you follow me on IG (@julietatorresd) you know it. That’s Colombian heritage! Also, my mom whispering in my ear “primero muerta que sencilla” — First dead than plain!

As you may or may not know, I’m currently in Colombia recovering from a tummy tuck. Look out for a ‘what to wear after a tummy tuck’ post soon. The thing is I haven’t been feeling like myself during this whole recovery. I don’t like how my clothes look on me. I’m tired of the compression garment, so I’ve been pretty much covering myself with a coat, a LEOPARD coat in fact.

I feel stylish and a little like me. I go out feeling more confident even if I’m wearing sweatpants under, or like I did here, jeans and a tee. A leopard coat is a life saver and confidence-boosting piece. Add a soft and beautiful scarf like this one and jeans and a tee to make it fun.

Current situation: running errands & looking good (without toooo much effort). Leopard coat + whateveryourewearing = style solution simplified. Yes! I know some of you are experiencing colder temperatures, so no worries! I found ALL the leopard coats for ALL the weather. Go to the end of the post to see them all, and wear one over anything and everything! Today I was wearing it with leggings, a sweater and shearling hiking boots. And on Christmas Eve with a velvet bodysuit, wide-leg jeans and metallic boots.

Outfit Details

Coat – On sale! It’s not good for extreme cold, but great for those with mild winters or perfect for the upcoming spring. Bogota, Colombia’s weather is like spring/fall.

Jeans – New favorite high-rise skinny jeans under $70. Super stretchy and amazing on a mommy tummy. More washes available.

Scarf – Softest, warmest, prettiest scarf. Only $45. My color is gone but available in three gorgeous colors.

Tee – Did you catch the “100% human” little graphic on my tee? It’s on waitlist right now for February 2nd and they go really fast. I’ve been wanting to get another one and always miss it. So if you want it get on that waitlist. Here with graphic in pink.

Bag – Borrowed it from my mom. I love wearing very casual outfits with a more put together bag. Makes the whole difference.

  1. This is a *seriously* cute look, but what on earth does one do with a leopard jacket once it’s run its fashion course? (Actually that would make a good post topic about many of these trends – rose gold sneaks, etc. – do you guys manage to wear them with quite the same panache a couple of years later?)

    • Thank you! In my opinion animal print is not a trend anymore, yes there’ll be some seasons that is everywhere and others not as much. But fashion has evolved from being all about trends to being all about personal expression and what each person likes. Like jeans, there was a time that it was all about an specific style. Low-rise, skinnies, boot-cut, wide legs. High-rise jeans can be all in, but you can find lower rises everywhere. Same with skinny jeans, they became an staple in a closet but it’s not all you can wear. I have more straight-leg and wide-leg jeans than skinnies, but they are still an important part of how I dress.

Going back to animal print, I’ve had a pair of animal print flats for over 4 years and every year in the fall I get them out and wear them and never feel outdated. I’ll probably need to get a new pair more than get animal print out of my closet. And in case you don’t know animal print is big in 2019.

SO, whenever you feel unsure about something, just don’t spend as much money on it and enjoy the trend while it lasts. I’m really happy with my coat because it was under $60 and I’ve already worn it so much. Even if it goes out of style I got my money’s worth.

Sorry for the long response and thank you for reading! Xo, Julieta
