What I Wear With Leggings To Feel Put Together

There was a moment in my life in which I said: “Yes I have kids, but no I will not wear leggings”. This is not a story of how I ended up doing the opposite. This is the story of how a mom is true to herself and adapts to things on her own terms.
So, I’ve kept my promise. At least for the most part. Leggings are great for comfort and mobility, and that matters a lot when you’re a mom. For the most part, 80% of the time you’ll see me in jeans; 15% of the time in stylish joggers, and only 5% of the time in leggings. I’ve kept my promise because that’s me. Wearing leggings only 5% of the time is what makes me happy. As a mom who gets bossed around on the daily by a 2-year-old, I make sure to do things that make me happy. That’s how I’ve managed not to lose my mind…haha. So the few times I wear leggings when I’m not exercising, I make it count!
A must for me is to always feel put together. ALWAYS! Doesn’t matter if I’m going on a date or taking my baby for a walk. I don’t always get to the makeup or hair part. I’m lucky if I manage to wash my hair more than twice a week, or put on a full face of makeup. Lipstick and sunglasses are great for that. But I like how a great outfit makes me feel more polished and ready to face…adults.

How I Wear Leggings To Feel My Best

Wearing leggings requires a certain...finesse. Comfort + polish is the way to go for some & it may call for a cropped sweater. We found another daily go-to!

  1. Quality: First things first! A good pair of leggings is the most important thing. I’m picky about my leggings and only have a few. Stay tuned for a full review on these I’m wearing.
  2. Mix different pieces: I look for more put together pieces to change the feeling of too casual. Even if I’m wearing them with a pullover or hoodie, I’ll reach for a tailored camel coat instead of a parka. Faux-fur jackets count too. Here, a button down and a nice sweater give a different feeling than a tee.
  3. Don’t be afraid of crop tops: I love the look of loose, cropped tops. They are great when you’re petite — and here’s the other thing, I disagree with the saying that “You should cover your bum when you’re wearing leggings.” Sometimes I cover it, others I don’t. The important thing for me is that I’m wearing high-quality leggings that are not see-through, and I feel good. So, cover your bum, don’t cover your bum. Do you!
  4. Mix different lengths: If you’re into covering your bum or just love the look of it, layer a longer top under. The only reason I’m wearing a longer top under is because I love the look. It’s also a great way to cover your bum and look taller when you’re petite.

Outfit Details

Sweater – Thick and warm. Full honesty — I wouldn’t pay full price for it. It started piling really fast. I love the fit and color, and it makes me happy so I’ve kept it. But wanted you to know that. Just used the fabric shaver, and looks great again though.

Leggings – If you’re on the fence about these leggings, I’m working on a full review all about them. Run small, and I’m wearing S petite.

Boots – If you follow me on Instagram @julietatorresd, you know I have not stopped wearing these boots. Not even in Colombia. I waited for a year to get these boots, and I finally did. Love them, and they look great with everything. Worth the money, for sure. Available in black, too.
