Utility pants in my closet? They’re usually one of the things I have to take some time to get my head around, as I often prefer things that are more tailored and not too sporty or bulky. Even when I tried the famous Free People Moxie Jeans, loved and rocked by many here at TME, I couldn’t stop laughing at the reflection in the mirror. I felt ridiculous.
I needed my version.
Recently, while cleaning my closet, I realized that I do have some cargo and utility pieces with a sophisticated twist. Picture silky cargo pants that I mostly wear dressed up, and recently, these utility pants by Frame (on sale right now). I never even thought they were utility pants.

These pants by Frame give off a more sophisticated, sleek, and put-together vibe while being relaxed and comfy. The front and back seams elongate my figure, the angled pockets are flattering and not bulky, and the slight barrel silhouette is so comfortable.

5 Ways To Wear Utility Pants and Look Elevated
These are some of the ways I’ve worn these pants. In all of these, I was pregnant, and I loved how they helped me feel amazing when I felt sick, bloated, nauseous, and more. So it’s safe to say they are early bump, postpartum, and belly-friendly.
Sizing notes: I’m 5’1″, so they are slightly long on me, but I love the full length with low heels or cuffed for flatter shoes. I’ll probably crop them at some point. I’m wearing my regular denim size 27, and they are slightly loose, which is perfect for pregnancy. You can size down, but it all depends on how relaxed you want them to be.
1. Casual Chic with a Cropped Jacket

Cropped jackets were made for these relaxed pants. I love an oversized on oversized look, but it is not my favorite look on my petite frame and personal style. Cropped jackets keep the legs long, emphasize the waist, and look amazing.

2. Feminine with a Floral Top
Relaxed utility pants are the perfect complement to a little floral top, flat sandals plus your favorite accessories. I wore this house hunting, a mini day date with Ron, and then dinner with the boys and it was perfect.

3. With a Cotton Tee in an Analogous Color and Comfy Sandals
As you may know, color is a huge part of how I run my styling business. Analogous colors are colors that sit next to each other in the color wheel, in this case, green and blue, and even more specifically, the best green and blue for my complexion. For green, depending on the specific shades, other colors would be yellow, lime green, deeper greens like forest or emeralds, and some shades of teal and blues.
4. Dressed Up with a Silky Top and Statement Earrings

Here, we have the same color formula but more formal. The specific style of these pants allows you to dress them up or down easily without feeling too utility or cargo. I even think I’ve worn them more on the dressier side than the more casual side.
5. Tone on Tone with a Mesh Top

As a petite woman, I LOVE to achieve any visual length by wearing the same color in tops and bottoms. Mesh tops are also super comfortable and sexy yet covered, and you can play with different tops under or over to get different looks. Finish the look with great accessories and a heeled boot.

And in case you didn’t notice, they’re amazing to wear now and later into fall. Even in winter, I wore them under a long coat and wool socks in January, and they were perfect.
