Can you tell I’m not really a morning person? I can’t promise that this is my last post about it. That. Cold. Morning. School. Drop-off. We’ve been over this regarding shoes, but then we also need some clothes to go with. And…I’m not rushing the days while Sienna is still young enough to want me to walk her into school, don’t get me wrong. But…but. It does mean getting out of the warm car in a somewhat presentable manner because I vowed years ago not to wear my PJs in public.
6 Comfy Outfit Ideas For Cold Mornings
Sienna still wants me to walk her all the way to her classroom door every morning. Kindergarten was nice because they had an external door for easy daily drop-off, allowing the sleepy parents to totally skirt the utter chaos that is the front hallway. But this year, I have to not only brave the front hallway chaos, pre-8am, but actually see people I know now. #firstgradeparentprobs Hahaha. What this does not mean is that I try to shove myself into high-waisted jeans at 7am. Oh, no no. But we just implement what I like to call the outfit saver (aka at least one item that doesn’t look like athleisure) and voilà. We’re all set for entering school chaos while also trying to avoid eye contact and have to make small talk. #stillnotamorningperson
1. Cozy Sweater Pants + Structured Jacket
These pants may look fab, but they’re also the coziest. Shana and I even had a battle last year of Who Wore Them Best. It doesn’t matter. We both win because they’re SO freaking comfy. They can easily lean PJs, but throw on a great jacket over your t-shirt (that you may or may not have slept in) and you’re set. Finish off with warm rad boots or high tops, and you look totally ready to tackle the day. Extra points for lipgloss.
2. Cozy Sweater + Very Stretchy Mid-Rise Jeans + Cool Sneaks
I could wear a soft cashmere sweater every day in the fall and winter, and be quite happy. I simply swap out my sweatpants for these stretchy, non-high-rise jeans, and slip on the cool sneaks and voilà. I try not to sleep in this sweater to keep it looking um, like I don’t sleep in it, but it doesn’t mean I haven’t. (I love this thing).
I had been eyeing this gorgeous long, split sweater tunic since last winter, and it recently came back in stock. Yes, please. It’s like wearing a throw blanket. It comes in light gray, too. Slip into the stretchy jeans and add high tops, and yes. There are no additional options on this one because it’s the only sweater like this I’ve seen. If you see something else like this, please send it my way!
OK, these are pushing it a little bit, I do realize, but joggers allow me to easily roll out of bed, throw on a bra (or this one that I often sleep in when it’s cold — SO comfy) and slip into my lovely leather moto jacket, finish off with high-tops and go. Did you roll out of bed or are you on your way to your rad hip hop class for moms? NO ONE KNOWS.
5. Leggings Aren’t Going Anywhere
OK, so whether you sleep in said leggings, or you hit the studio or gym after drop-off (no judgment) bring in an element or two to take this momiform staple to the next level. I love a cool sneaker or a structured jacket to make the whole look more intentional. Or trying layering. It always helps everything look cooler. Or, just go all in and style faux leather leggings up with your hiking boots because that’s how you roll.
6. Knit Jumpsuits Are Your Friend
And finally, for those days when you have to be all put together in the early morn’ but you still want to be comfy, enter the knit jumpsuit. This time of year is the best because you can layer a great overcoat to break up the color or pattern of your jumpsuit: printed coats for solid jumpsuits and the opposite for jumpsuits with prints. This is one of my favorite looks right now. They’re great travel looks, too. I find knit jumpsuits, in general, way easier to put on and off throughout the day, too. And the comfort level here is off the charts.
Alright…here’s where I ask you to share your favorite comfy-but-put-together combos with us. I have no witty quips to leave you with, but just the fact that we must come together in support for anything that has to be done pre-second cup of coffee, friends. May the force be with you.
