Let’s be honest. I adore styling up all the fun things in my closet and taking pics for y’all, but these pieces are what are actually on my body most days (besides sweats, heh.) Space dye leggings and yoga bras are my jam. So when I saw a few similar options appear out there in my favorite style fabric, I thought it was time for a review.
Which Space Dye Activewear Is The Comfiest? Beyond Yoga, Zella & Aerie Compared
For five years now I’ve been surviving (both mentally and physically) by doing barre3 3-4x every week. Right now, it’s through their livestream options, but before it was in-studio as much as possible. I mentioned it in our group at-home workout post, but I honestly don’t know what I would have done without barre3 this past year. My best game plan for getting it done? To have really comfy workout wear that I don’t mind wearing before and after the workouts.

OK, so let’s get to the details of these three brands and their space dye leggings and sports bra options. The price range here maxes out with Beyond Yoga coming in at the highest price point, and then the cost per piece goes down from there. You can find Beyond Yoga at a variety of places, but Zella and Aerie only on Nordstrom and Ae.com.
The workout pieces that look almost exactly the same are the Beyond Yoga and Aerie pieces, but Zella has some options that I don’t have that are pretty similar. (I’ve linked leggings below.) Shoutout to Amy for the heads-up about the Aerie line! Taller mamas, check out her try-on sesh of their line here. If you have any questions, as always, hit me up in the comments! Let’s get to it…

These are my favorites. I’ve had multiple pairs of Beyond Yoga Space Dye leggings for years, washed and dried them a million times, and they’ve never given out on me. They hold you in, but with the softness of a baby’s bottom. Is that weird? Idk and I don’t care…it’s soft AND supportive. Sorry this is sounding like a Quilted Northern ad…
Beyond Yoga is carried at barre3 studios because it’s a woman-owned, mom-owned business, so that’s why we love them, too! The fabrics were created to be easy to care for. Beyond softness, the reason I love the leggings so much is that they don’t roll down on me. Winning. The tops are best for low-impact workouts, but they have other bras, like the Lift Your Spirits bra, that are more supportive (have and love that one, too)
Sizing has been true to size for me, but size down if you’re in between sizes. Like I’ve said before, I don’t know what unicorn magic is in these pants, but I love it.

Zella Space Dye Leggings & Sports Bra
all Zella, at Nordstrom only // Zella plus size options
Zella activewear pieces have become some of my absolute favorites over the past couple of years. Even though these exact leggings are currently sold out (don’t worry, they usually comes back in stock!) They have lots of pieces in this soft amazing fabric. I’ve rounded up a bunch below. Their fabric is thicker than the Beyond Yoga but a really similar quality. I haven’t lived in these and washed them quite as many times as the BY, but they have been through wears and washes and hold up well and haven’t pilled.
I love that the top has a little more support due to the wider straps, too. Everyone swears by their whole line of leggings and these are the same fabric as the ones I have on. The leggings here have a thicker ribbed waistband, different from the other two thinner fabric pairs. Their leggings I’ve linked to are more of an exact fit with the other pairs here.

Aerie Offline The Hugger Athletic Wear
Aerie Hugger workout wear (size range XXS-XXL)
Y’all. Apparently the new term is athflow. OK, I’m trying to get with that term because I guess it’s the new ‘athleisure,’ but omg that is the worst word I’ve ever heard. Hahaha. Ath-flow. No-go.
OK, anyway, but these leggings and sports bra from Aerie. These workout pieces! Are so great! I can’t speak to their washability and wearability over time yet, but gosh. So supportive and soft. They’re not quite as thick and soft as my beloved Beyond Yoga, but a really great alternative and at a much easier price point!
The bottoms roll down a bit when you move with these, which is my only drawback. I am short-waisted and have a pretty straight midsection, so it makes sense. But these are more roll-y (hit that rollie) than the Beyond Yoga or Zella. I believe they are slightly lower waisted than the two above…could be the reason why they roll? But I still love them, I may just wear them with a tank on top for workouts, instead of just with the bra here. But for a fraction of the price of Beyond Yoga? These are a great find, both the top and bottoms.

Shop Space Dye Activewear Pieces
As I mentioned, the Zella pieces come in and out of stock, so I’ll keep an eye out and share on Facebook and IG when I see restocks! You can also add them to your Nordstrom Wishlists, and you’ll be notified of restocks. But they have a variety of pieces that are currently available that are super-cute and in the same space dye fabric.
I do find it best for any of my sweaty workout wear if I wash it as soon as possible (any fabrics that have a poly blend tend to hold onto odors otherwise) but using Rocking Green or baking soda & vinegar in the wash also help. If you have any other washing tips for sweaty clothes, please do share. That’s my only issue with these poly blend fabrics (same with t-shirts) is that they can sometimes hold on to odors more than other performance fabrics. They’re SO soft and comfy though that I just give them extra attention in the wash because it’s worth it!

Hey hey from Portland, OR. Would love for you to follow me over on Instagram @laurajansenstyle for all things casual mom-wear, lots of foodie pics and donuts, some kitchen dance parties and some social justice. xo
Oh hey, Pinners…
I’ve had good luck with Hex wash for sportswear (probably similar to Rocking Green), though I don’t use it every single time. Occasionally I soak my sports bras it in and give them some gentle stretching so it can really penetrate; that seems to help.
Ah good tips thank you! The soaking probably helps for sure.
Molly’s All-Sport Wash is the best I’ve found! My dad, who uses it for sweaty cycling gear, tipped me off. Ha!
Ooh thanks so much! I’ll give it a try!
From my years of cloth diapering I have learned that WATER is important. Today’s efficient machines don’t have enough water to really get stuff clean so you either need to soak for a bit like already mentioned or add an extra rinse cycle. It makes a big difference.
OH this makes so much sense! Thank you! Add a rinse cycle! Genius.
OMG! I love love love that you included one of the shots from Aerie includes model who uses a wheelchair! Inclusion. It matters.
Yes! Representation! I so love they are showing a variety of models at Aerie. It really does matter.
I use The Laundress Sport Detergent and never have an issue with lingering smells. https://www.thelaundress.com/sport-detergent-16-fl-oz.html
Laura, what size are you wearing in the Beyond Yoga top?? While I can wear any of their other tops with thicker straps…that thin strap cami I can’t see to get big enough. Did you happen to size up?
I”m wearing a Small. It get’s a leeetle boobalicious when I bend over sometimes, but still perfect for my low-impact workouts. I haven’t tried sizing up but have wanted to!
