I have spent years assuming low-rise jeans + curves were a combination I wanted absolutely nothing to do with. I pretty much wore that trend into the ground during the Britney Spears era (still love her though), and I have zero desire to go back.
I like my jeans to come up to my waist, hold everything in and NOT require constant adjusting. Postpartum bellies (if you’ve EVER had a child you can claim postpartum IMO) are not the same as college girls in the early 2000s.
But then I tried AG’s Adria Low Rise Baggy Jeans during Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale a couple of years ago, fully expecting to hate them…and I didn’t. **They’re 30% off right now!
(And apparently I’m not the only one who loves them because AG keeps making them in a TON of washes and embellished options, many on sale…currently drooling over this pair.)
AG Adria Low Rise Baggy Jeans: How They Fit On Curves
First of all, 2026 low rise is not 2003 low rise. These have a 9 1/2″ rise, so yes, they sit noticeably lower than the high-rise jeans I usually wear, but we’re nowhere near early-2000s territory here.

The lower rise actually works really well on my curves. Instead of cinching everything in at my natural waist, they sit more relaxed through the waist and hips before falling into a loose, wide leg. Even the “baggy” part is a little misleading on a curvier body. My hips and butt fill them out, so they’re fitted where I want them to be and then get nice and loose through the leg.

I’m wearing my usual size 28, and there’s no annoying gap at the waist. They’re relaxed without looking saggy, and the pocket placement works great. I don’t typically love rigid denim either, but the relaxed fit makes these really comfortable despite having no stretch. The 32″ inseam works on me at 5’4″ with shorter and taller heels.
How I’m Styling AG’s Low-Rise Jeans
The biggest thing I’ve figured out with low-rise jeans is that I still want some definition around my waist. That doesn’t necessarily mean a tight or cropped top, though. I’ve been playing around with different proportions, from peplum tops and sweaters to actually leaning into the lower rise with a scarf tied at the hips.
Outfit 1: Low-Rise Jeans + A Hip Scarf
Same outfit, but I swapped the belt for a scarf tied around my hips and suddenly the low rise feels like the whole point. I LOVE this.

Outfit 2: Low-Rise Jeans + A Peplum Top
I especially love these with a peplum top. It defines my natural waist, then flares out right around where the jeans sit, which works SO well with the lower rise.

Outfit 3: Low-Rise Jeans + A Lace Blouse
I like them with something looser, too. I love the contrast of this romantic lace blouse with the slouchier jeans, and I’m wearing my go-to Hanro Allure cami underneath so you can actually see all that gorgeous lace detail.

Outfit 4: Low-Rise Jeans + A Sexy, Fitted Top
And yes, they can absolutely be dressed up. This top is bringing some SERIOUS cleavage 😂, but I love the combination of a sexy, fitted top with the slouchier jeans. The relaxed jeans balance it out perfectly.

Outfit 5: Low-Rise Jeans + A Cropped Sweater + Layers
Shorter sweaters are an easy pairing, too. This one hits right around the waistband, and I layered a sheer top underneath for a little extra coverage (and because I love the way it looks peeking out).

Outfit 6: Low-Rise Jeans + A Longer Sweater
And you don’t have to stick with shorter tops. A longer sweater works just as well, especially if you’re not quite ready to make the low rise the focal point of the outfit.

These have become one of the pairs I reach for most lately. I’ve had VERY little success trying low-rise jeans on a curvier shape, but something about the fit of these just works. The lower rise and loose, wide leg feel really current right now, and apparently that’s all it took to turn someone who swore she was done with low-rise jeans into…someone who wears them all the time. 😂
(And if you have another good recommendation for low rise jeans that work on curves…send it my way!)
XOXO,
Scotti
