I purposely keep myself away from Athleta. I’m serious. Because every time I “just pop in,” I end up finding something I love and buying it. I let myself back in this July, came home with some GREAT pants, and then promptly put myself back on an Athleta timeout. And then I heard about Featherweight Satin. Wait. Athleta has SATIN?! How did I not know about this? So, obviously I Googled it from my couch, saw the collection and immediately decided my self-imposed Athleta ban was over. I got in the car and headed to my local store.
The minute I walked in, there it was front and center on the mannequin, and it looked SO GOOD. I grabbed the Featherweight Satin pants, matching jacket, and tank in both colors. (There are shorts too, but I’m really not a short-shorts girl, so those stayed right where they were.)
Oh… and the Athleta Friends & Family Sale is happening now until October 6th!
My Athleta Fall Try-On: Satin, Fleece, Seasoft + What Actually Came Home
Of course I couldn’t take just the satin featherweight into the dressing room. I also grabbed the Eternity Rib pants, Dream Drape, Seasoft and Forever Fleece, and before I knew it my dressing room was FULL. I was still mostly there for the Featherweight Satin (that was the whole reason for this little Athleta field trip), but there were definitely a few surprises along the way. So…let’s get into it.
1. The Reason I Went: Featherweight Satin
Pants (s) | Jacket (s) | Bra (m)
Okay, it is NO surprise that I am already obsessed with this outfit. First of all, I LOVE the satin track pant look. But what really sold me is how many different ways I can wear these pieces. The pants can be worn wide-leg or cinched at the ankles for more of a jogger look. The jacket can be worn long and loose, or you can cinch the bottom and tuck it under like I did here for a cropped jacket look. And there’s a matching satin tank, which, of course, I also got.
Pants (s) | Jacket (s) | Tank (s) | Bra (m)
I can see myself doing EVERYTHING in these. Hanging out at home, dressing them up with heels and accessories, going to brunch, you name it. I’ve already worn them to teach dance (and received so many compliments!), and they were incredibly comfortable to move in. They even passed the sweat test! I’ve worn them to brunch, and I’m planning to wear them dressed up to a Broadway show in NYC this weekend.
They look good. They feel good. They’re comfortable. AND they’re versatile. What more could I want? I bought BOTH colors in the pants, jacket, and tank, and I can honestly say this is one of the happiest purchases I’ve made in a long time. I already know I’m going to get SO much wear out of these. If you check out one thing from this try-on, make it the Featherweight Satin.
2. Dream Drape Pants (Foldover Waist!)
Okay, these are definitely comfortable. The fabric is incredibly lightweight, soft, and flowy. I mean, MAJOR comfort. I really wanted to love them, but once I had them on, I just knew they weren’t quite my style.
I’ve learned that no matter how comfortable something is, if I can’t picture myself actually wearing it, I probably won’t. BUT if this is your style and you’re looking for something super lightweight and comfortable, I would absolutely give these a try!
3. Dream Drape Top
Now THIS I loved. And yes, it came home with me! It comes in both long-sleeve and short-sleeve versions, and I love how floaty and relaxed it is. But here’s what really sold me: you can wear it long OR turn it into a cropped look.
The bottom of the shirt has a fitted band, just like the sleeves, which gives the arms that gorgeous billowy look. Because the waist is fitted, you can pull it up and let the fabric fall over the band for a loose, floaty crop. AND it falls slightly off the shoulder, which you know I love. It’s relaxed, feminine, comfortable, and has that effortless look I’m always drawn to.
4. Forever Fleece
I have never really gotten into Athleta’s sweats, and after trying these on, I’m honestly not sure WHY. They’re SO comfortable! First of all, I really like the waistband. And you know how a waistband can make or break a pair of pants? Well, this one is a winner for me. The pants feel great, and the whole set is cozy and warm without sacrificing style. I didn’t bring these home, but only because I already have a LOT of sweatpants. And the crewneck sweatshirt? I basically own the exact same one from Athleta, except mine says “Power to the She,” and I love it. So I had to exercise a little self-control.
HOWEVER, I recently saw the most beautiful red color on their website, and now I can’t stop thinking about it. I’m pretty sure I’ll be grabbing the full red Forever Fleece set during the sale.
5. Seasoft Wide Crop Pant & Move With Ease Top
These Seasoft Pants feel AMAZING. They’re incredibly soft, cozy, and comfortable. They also sit a little lower on the waist, which is something I’m getting used to again. I’ve been in my high-waisted era for SO long, but with everything moving back toward mid-rise, I’m slowly coming around. And I actually really liked the rise on these!
Here’s why I didn’t bring them home, though. When I put them on, all I wanted to do was go home and lounge around. And while there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that, I’m usually looking for clothes that can do a little more. I want something I can lounge in, teach dance in, wear to the gym, or throw on to run errands. These felt more like stay-at-home pants to me, and I just don’t need another pair of those right now. That said, I LOVE Athleta’s Seasoft line. I already own a Seasoft zip-up hoodie that I’m obsessed with, so I’m definitely going to explore more of this collection.
Move With Ease, LOVE this top. It’s big, floaty, relaxed, and falls off the shoulder. Basically, all the things I love in a top. I’m actually wearing a LARGE here because I wanted that extra-oversized look, and it was exactly what I was going for. I didn’t grab it this time because, well, I had to control myself SOMEWHERE. But I’m 100% going back for this one during the sale.
6. Eternity Rib Crop Wide Leg
Who knew I was a cropped-pants girl?! I honestly didn’t think I was, but I LOVED these. They came home with me, and I’ve already worn them out and about. I love the roll-down waistband, and I love where they hit, just above the ankle. They’re cute, comfortable, and one of those pieces I can immediately picture styling in a bunch of different ways. Sneakers? Yes. Sandals? Absolutely. Heels? I can totally see it. And THAT is always my goal when I’m shopping. How many different ways can I wear this? How many different activities can I do in it? If I’m going to spend money on something, I want to get as much use out of it as possible.
My life is active. I’m constantly moving, teaching dance, going to the gym, running around, and occasionally getting dressed up. I want clothes that can move through all of that with me.
Well, that about does it! I had SO much fun going into Athleta and trying on all these pieces. I just kept grabbing more things and adding them to my dressing room. I mean, this is exactly why I have to keep myself out of that store! The star of the show is DEFINITELY the Featherweight Satin. I’m seriously so excited about this collection, and everything I’ve brought home I’ve already worn multiple times. That’s how I know I made some good purchases.
And the things I left behind? Well, let’s just say I have a few of them on my list for Athleta’s Friends & Family Sale, September 28th–October 6th! That red Forever Fleece set and the Move With Ease top are calling my name, and you KNOW I’ll be hopping online to grab them before they sell out. If you haven’t been into Athleta lately, I highly recommend popping into a store and trying some things on. They have a lot of good stuff right now, and sometimes you really do need to put something on to appreciate how amazing it feels. And PLEASE, promise me you’ll try the Featherweight Satin. I need to know what you think!
XOX,
L
