Gang, Athleta’s Friends & Family sale is happening now through Tuesday (10/1), and it’s a good one: 25% off your purchase. This particular Athleta sale happens to be my favorite simply because of the timing – late September/early October is right when I start getting prepped for cold-weather workouts and wanderings.
Specifically: what will I wear to walk the dog?

If you happen to be looking for fresh colors & pretty patterns…I offer you “cypress” (an absolutely gorgeous winter green) and these leggings in ‘ainsley texture black’ which is chic like leopard print without actually being leopard print (and a touch more colorful, too). They’re both great options for you colorful people.
But since it’s me, and I am how I am…

My most-loved pieces from Athleta (aka my most-worn pieces in general) are, yup: all black. #nooneissurprised
So, in honor of the F&F 25% off, here are 6 Athleta pieces I highly recommend, ones that I’ve put to some serious use.
The 6 Most-Worn Athleta Pieces In My Closet Right Now
The reason I love these particular pieces is because they’re all pieces I’ve worn both for lounging around the house and venturing outside. They are, indeed, my Dog Walking Capsule Wardrobe (haha but no seriously) but I’ve also worn them traveling, to little cafes, school drop-off, as well as snuggling up with a good book at home, or working remotely. (I am, in fact, wearing them now.)
Let’s get into it.
1. This Oversized Hoodie + 2. Flared Leggings

hoodie (s) | pants (s, petite)
I did NOT realize how much I needed an oversized, zip hoodie in my life until I bought this one. Gang, it’s fantastic. Instead of the long-and-fitted sweatshirt style that feels a little outdated, this one has a truly oversized, fresh shape.

I tried my usual size in both the regular and petite lengths, but actually preferred how intentionally oversized it looked in the regular length. The biggest difference between the petite and regular sizes is in the sleeves (body length only differs by an inch or so).

I’ve been wearing this hoodie with Athleta’s Elation Ultra High-Rise Flare Pant. They’re basically leggings, but in a fresh, new shape that feels more modern. Butter soft, too, just like Athleta’s leggings.

I can’t recommend flared leggings highly enough – they’ve been such a clutch swap for my usual leggings.
A few notes/swaps: If you prefer leggings with a stash pocket, Athleta’s Salutation Stash Flared Leggings are also 25% off. The only difference (besides the stash pocket) is that they’re not *quite* as high-rise as the pair I’m wearing (I preferred the higher rise). And if you’re a Northern Girl, Athleta’s Rainier High Rise Bootcut Pant is a freaking gift in cold weather. The interior is brushed in soft fleece, and they’re truly warm – I wore mine to walk the dog in Northern Vermont all winter, and stayed pretty toasty. Lastly, the pair I’m wearing also comes in a ribbed fabric. The ribbed fabric looks really elevated, hides any sort of lump or bump and is a little warmer than the regular fabric, but it isn’t *quite* as soft. (The difference is slight, but still noticeable.)
3. Easy Trousers + 4. This Tank

Since it’s not actually cold yet, the outfit I’ve been wearing on repeat (and basically all summer long) is Athleta’s Brooklyn Heights High-Rise Pleated Wide-Leg Pants with the Aurora Seamless Cropped Rib Strappy Tank. These pants are a delight: they’re uber lightweight, without being obnoxiously swishy. They’re the closest thing I’ve found to wearing…air.
These pants have a deliciously comfy elastic waistband, yet still read as trousers. The pleats aren’t too much, and there’s even zip-front pockets, which is nice for traveling.
And before I forget: the top is Athleta’s latest version of my beloved Aurora ribbed tank (one of my most-worn pieces of all time), and both versions are great!
5. & 6. An Old School Sweatsuit
sweatshirt (s) | joggers (s, petite)
I have been WAITING for Athleta to come out with an old-school, fleece sweatsuit for what feels like EONS…and this one was worth the wait! Athleta completely nailed it – the joggers are oversized and cool (yet still available in petite, regular and tall sizes to get that perfectly retro look) – and the sweatshirt is short, without being cropped.

The sweatshirt literally hits exactly at the top of the waistband, and has enough shape to, uh, blouse in a nonchalant manner. (I hate the word ‘blouse’. Just me?)
And the joggers do run big (but that’s how I like ’em). If I feel like wearing them high on my waist, I’ll use the drawstring. Or, I’ll flip the waistband down if I feel like wearing them lower & slouchy. It all works.

I think I tried on every. single. piece. in Athleta’s fleece collection, and these two were my very favorites. (But if you have questions about any of the other pieces, I did take notes, haha. For example: these fleece cargo pants are really fun, but run HUGE. FYI.)
If you guys care, I actually have two more pieces I’m really excited about – yes, they’re still black, but with a white stripe! I know, I know, so crazy. They are:
- ONE – these leggings have both a stash pocket (yasss), cool white striped detail, and a bananas-soft handfeel. I keep getting compliments on them (just wore them to Solidcore this morning).
- TWO – this mock-neck long-sleeve top is really chic on (again, get the one with the white stripe). I’ll be wearing it as a baselayer this winter AND a real top.
I could keep going, but I’ll stop. Gahhhh Athleta really has my number right now.
Happy wandering.

A huge thank-you to Athleta for sponsoring this post! There’s nothing easier than talking about pieces I wear all the time, so this was a no-brainer. As always, all thoughts, opinions, and all-black product choices are my own. And readers, thank you for your continued support – it doesn’t go unnoticed, and is so very much appreciated. xo!
